Hello folks,

It's Earth Hour here in Sydney right now (7.30 pm- 8.30 pm). Lights have been turned off in most buildings, offices & homes in the city & suburbs, even the Opera House & Harbour Bridge. I think Sydney is the first city to achieve something like this on this scale. The aim is to cut greenhouse emissions by 5% over the next year. I applaud the idea, but it kind of gets on my nerves because I've already bumped into a chair or two lol! Computers, radios & TV's are allowed to be on though.

Lion,

I don't think Melbourne is taking part in this, machan. As far as I know, Sydney is the only city in Australia (I think in the world, for that matter) doing this, and it has support from the NSW govt as well.

Are you down in Mel? I have a lot of friends studying in those unis. Miss the buggers lol!

Lion,

Ah! Good to hear you're down under too!

Yeah lots of Lankans down in Melbourne. Not that many over here, compared to Mel. Most Lankans in Sydney live in the western suburbs. I've met a few in my uni.

Are you studying or working in Mel?

Lion,

You're a bit senior to me. I just started my second year here. I have a few relations in both Melbourne & Sydney.

What's the cost of living like in Melbourne? I heard that Sydney is the most expensive city in the country but Mel is much cheaper, right?

Ya you are spot on actually its much cheaper here compared to Syd
but the problem here is there are too much of asians and south east asians at that.
so sometimes the freedom factor is a bit hindered.
any way things are getting harder here as well
petrol prices are rocketing up every day.
it was only .66 wen i came here now its 1.35
