Hashini:
I don't think India is secular as much as they use the name or that word. I lived in the country. There is alot of annymosity if you are not a hindu.
Human rights, Equality AS WELL as SECULAR are political words.
Politically India is a secular country. Indian govt openly does not support any religion.
So, you need to understand first what SeCULAR is. |

SL1,
My Question is isn't it similar to introvation and practise of using pleasure areas on your mind ?
Interesting questioning. But before answeing questions on this I need to ensure whether you have read any of the 'Tipitaka' to answer or enquire your interest in introversion. Tripitaka or Tipitaka as in Pali is the collection of 3 text books of the Teravada Buddhism. They are 'Vinaya Pitaka', 'Sutta Pitaka' and 'Abhidhamma Pitaka'.
Out of these 3 pitakas 'Abhidhamma' is the pitaka you need to read to comprehend the mantal states and thoughts of ones perception. Mind and thought are two things that go in tandem but could take plunges upon action; in order to realise this phenomenon you need to read and comprehend 'Abhidhamma'. If you have not associated it in detailed I'll recommend you to buy a basic Principles of Abhidhamma' and associate it.
Alternatively I have quoted a web page for you to get some insight what it is like an explanation.
http://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/abhi/index.html
I also want you to read deep down abhidhamma to assimilate any doubts that you have on human mind and thoughts processes. It may take some time but make free time to do so, as its fully worth in indulging.
I can recommend some of the basic Buddhist Books if you are interested in; written by Rev. Prof. Rerukane Chandawimala Thero. As you can see one in Red is basic concepts of Abhidhamma. Hope I have been of help to you. Nice to know you are interested in this area.
I also have some picture in my space on below link;

Eelamaya,
I am fine how are you buddy?
Now on the question about Monks and Buddhism and Christianity and others. I think we need not mix everything to make a hotchpotch. As I have mentioned to SL1 Buddhism is a religion that needs intelligent people with patience and digestive power not emotional people who create unwanted publicity over petty racial, religious or class issue. Whether that implies racism or communalism remains to be talked through.
For every religion there are fundamentalists and fanatics. To say the least we should not mix them together as mentioned before.
The counttry needs peace and Sri Lanka predominantly being a Buddhist country monks take precedence for that matter and that does not mean to create tension and intricacies among non-Buddhist of course.

| In my mind A VIABLE POWER SHARING is NOT what LTTE wants but what Tamils want. That means the power to bring LTTE, Karuna, TULF, EPDP everybody to the table and finding out what TAMILS want, not what LTTE wants. Most tamil dispora may support LTTE but not in within the SLn soil. There are many fractions. That would be a viable solution. I also have understood that what LTTE want is not necessarily what tamils want. It depends from region to region. Tamils from east to north, to the south to the west are different. Catholic community is different from the hindu community. Their concerns and needs are different. I think a viable solution of power sharing is actually when all are addressed including the muslims and the burgers, they might not want to be under a political solution that is beneficial to the sinhala and tamil community without their say. It is a long road we have waisted 30 years so few more years won't hurt if we sincerely want an answer but I doubt it. |
