Opening:
Thousands of Sri Lankan government troops have begun advancing towards a strategic Tamil Tiger rebel jungle base in the island's restive east.(AFP/File
Action:
Troops backed by artillery and multi-barrel rocket fire were advancing towards Thoppigala, a key base of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), a military official said.
The thrust of troops came from Batticaloa district, backed by security forces in adjoining Ampara district, the sources added.
Closing:
over 100 troops have deserted into the jungle and few died.
others were looking to desert , and the commander have taken brave move and withdraw.
observers feel srilanan army consisit of 99% sinhalese are thieves and criminls , what can they steel from thopigala?
therefore they are not interested in fighting in jungle. for sampoor preaction those army were told there are thousands of rich tamils and lots of cash and jewels.
commanders couldnt say they can get cash in jungle.
however the deserted army may have gone to jungle to sell their wepons to LTTE then come to colombo
and rejoin in navy with different name.
observers pointed out LTTE have said srilankan military are the main suppliers of LTTE wepons, they did not want to details anymore.
in jaffna fresh delivery of 25 boxed of gunpower must have delivered through military

I think like this, east was always a multi cultural area like Colombo. so east should be liberated.
North had Muslims and Sinhalese but now its only allowed to Tamils. in other words North has already emerged as a mono ethnic land with 0 ethnic diversity.
let us give the Wanni jungle to the LTTE. they can have their small dream land.
Jaffna and East will run under GOSL with ethnic diversity and equal development. |

Multicultured BUT majority Tamil until forced colonization by the government and subsequent driving off of the Tamil people.
Anyway no worries though the illegal squatters will be taken care of in due time, starting with Manal Aru. |
