Fighter jets continue bombing LTTE hideouts
Saturday, 3 March 2007 - 4:54 AM SL Time

Sri Lanka Airforce fighter jets yesterday continued bombing missions in the East targeting another LTTE hideout.

The Russian built MIGs bombed a place in Thoppigala, where the Tigers frequently gather the Media Centre for National Security said. Earlier the MIGs destroyed an LTTE training facility, 15 km west of Mankulam in the Wanni.

Meanwhile a policeman and a home guard were injured when the LTTE exploded a claymore mine in Irattaperiyakulam in Vavuniya.

The injured were admitted to the Vavuniya hospital and later transferred to the Anuradhapura hospital.

In another incident the troops recovered a claymore mine weighing 6 kg. in Kalawanchikudy in the East.

A special team of inquiry has been appointed by Airforce Commander Roshan Goonetillake to ascertain as to what really went wrong with the Chinese built PT -6 training craft which on Thursday crash landed at the Anuradhapura airbase killing the trainer and the cadet officer who were on board.

LTTE stumped by Sri Lankan jets

PK Balachandran

Colombo, March 2, 2007|18:08 IST

The Sri Lankan Air Force (SLAF), which turned 56 on Friday, has never been as deadly and as effective against the LTTE as it is today.

....

If the LTTE has yielded ground in the East and is still unable to launch any major offensive against the Sri Lankan armed forces, it is substantially due to the unprecedented activity of the Sri Lankan Air Force (SLAF) and the technological edge it enjoys over the LTTE.

..

Few would challenge the contention that the SLAF's complete mastery over the skies has been a major factor in the military successes registered by the Sri Lankan Armed forces since April 2006.

...

Gone are the days when slow moving, low flying and ill-equipped SLAF aircraft were easy prey for the LTTE's SAM missiles.

....

Air strikes have been taking place almost daily since April 25, 2006 when President Rajapaksa ordered air strikes against Sampur near Trincomalee, after the LTTE tried to kill Army Commander Lt Gen Sarath Fonseka inside the Army HQ in Colombo earlier in the day.

'There is a tremendous improvement in bombing accuracy. And intelligence on the targets, has also improved greatly, thanks to the deployment of UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles),' Goonetileke said.

I do not contradict your statement about the past, but atleast the present/future seems to be getting better (for civillians in N&E and GoSL/SLAF of course)

Yes he is reporting from Far and I dont think the guys(LTTE) who were closest to the attack zone acknowledged the attack even(I might be wrong, but I didnt see any reports on this attack in TamilNet or any other sites).

Yes I know it was terrible, and NO I am not happy about that.

I guess you understand what I said about it's getting better and also I hope you understand(even though you might not want to acknowledge it, which I quite understand) why SLAF/GoSL are compelled to do these bombings.

Whne bombs explode we all have to run no matter what race you are or where you are, thats the reality mate.

If you dont mind me asking, are you still in the N&E of SL?

No, bro. Why, didn't you know that TamilnUt & other pro-Tiger sites don't report on this GOSL punakku?

Lol! But TamilnUt did report on our Chinese model that crashed with two personnel on board. They even put up a picture of a plane of that type.

High level sources in Killi tell me that they heard the sound of partying and champagne corks popping somewhere deep underground, presumably in Prabha's bunker. The fellows were apparently delighted that at last one of our planes had crashed.

;-)
