Yup... these migs were such a big threat to them they had to find new ways of taking them out since shooting them down is a pretty difficult task when all their arms shipments are fast becoming artificial reefs :))))

'The Tamil Tigers have started trying to absolve themselves and allay the fallout. The terrorist group went so far as to blame the Sri Lankan government, through some highly contorted logic, for not warning the rebels that the diplomats were traveling in the area. Even if this dubious claim were true, it certainly isn't exculpatory because the Tigers have a history of targeting both high-ranking Sri Lankan officials and foreign diplomats.

and someone was saying..... I love the part that sayd how contorted the logic is....

Sri Lanka air force training plane crashes, 2 dead
Thu Mar 1, 2007 3:28 PM IST

COLOMBO (Reuters) - A Sri Lankan air force two-seater training plane accidentally crashed on Thursday in the island's north, killing the instructor and his student, officials said.

The small Chinese-built training aircraft crashed soon after take-off at an air force base in the north-central district of Anuradhapura, one of the island's ancient former capitals. Its Buddhist temple ruins are a tourist magnet.

'They crashed soon after take-off,' said air force spokesman Group Captain Ajantha De Silva.

The incident was not connected to renewed civil war between the state and Tamil Tiger rebels, which has killed around 68,000 people since 1983 -- 4,000 of those in the past 15 months alone.
