SL Navy foil LTTE attempt to smuggle arms- Dondra Point
The SL Naval patrol units foiled an LTTE terrorist attempt to smuggle a cache of arms and explosives in the seas 185 Nm, off 'Dondra Point'-Matara, today(28) morning.

Fishermen in the area said that they heard two large explosions from the above mentioned area, as they making towards the land.

It is believed that an LTTE arms trawler laden with a large quantity of high explosives had opened fire at the Naval units, after failing to confirm their identity when apprehended by the Navy.

Following the attack the Naval sea units have engaged gun fire in retaliation. According to information sources the LTTE arms trawler is presently sinking in the high seas.
