Sri Lankan navy repulses Tiger rebel sea attack; 15 insurgents believed killed
Associated Press, Tue February 27, 2007 22:59 EST . KRISHAN FRANCIS - Associated Press Writer - COLOMBO, Sri Lanka - (AP) The Sri Lankan navy battled a flotilla of Tamil Tiger boats and at least 15 rebels were believed killed as they attempted to infiltrate a strategic port in the northeast, the Defense Ministry said Wednesday. Sri Lanka - 's air force, meanwhile, attacked a rebel base in an eastern jungle, Samarasinghe said, but there was no information on casualties or damage.
The rebels could not immediately be reached for comment.

On Tuesday the Tigers attacked helicopters carrying diplomats who wanted to view an area for development in eastern Batticaloa district.

The U.S. and Italian ambassadors were slightly injured and seven Sri Lankan security personnel were also hurt, but envoys from Canada, France, Germany and Japan escaped without injury.

''We were extremely lucky to be able to escape. I could see the grenades ... falling and exploding,'' German Ambassador Jeurgen Weerth said.

The Tigers said they believed the helicopters were carrying the Sri Lankan military.

Good to see that the LTTE 'believed' that it was military personnel...

Meaning, bootleg intelligence for LTTE now........! ho ho ho...

In fact I speculated and hinted this in one of my replies yesterday on the earlier thread....glad to see it being confirmed through AP...

Dear IRanian president, ebfore poking fun at tamilnet, maybe you should take a look at your own 'defence' sites, seems they don't know whether the boat was coming or going:

from nationalINSECURITY.lk:

DONDRA POINT (MATARA DISTRICT): THE SRI LANKA NAVY SPOTTED A SUSPICIOUS BOAT without a flag, name or identification marks moving 180 nautical miles off DONDRA POINT TOWARDS THE DEEP SEA on Wednesday (28th) around 8.30 a.m. The Navy suspecting it to be a LTTE boat engaged in smuggling activities was ordered to stop by firing several warning shots for identification and search.

defensless.lk doesn't say anything, but I found this amusing:

Fishermen in the area said that they heard two large explosions from the above mentioned area, as they were making towards the land.

Speaking of people on the beach with the hands to their heads why is the SLDF depending on 'expert witnesses' like these fishermen LOL.

Because the only other witnesses are riding the boat down to the sandy bottom, Revy. Now they could have been reliable witnesses.

Then why mention it in the first place on the MoD page? As if that fact some how adds credence to the whole thing? I just find it comical, if I were the military I would just say our Navy patrol identified it and sunk it etc.. what the heck do some fishermen have to do with it???

Do you get my point? Are they trying to justify their story using fishermen? Is this how low the trust in your GoSL is now? Hilarious.

Anyway I am off again. later all have a good day/night.
