JRJ,
Yes! It was the LTTE fire. But if the diplomats were foolish enough to go to a war zone without informing both parties ahead, then it is their fault.
Now, people and politicians of these countries, who are well educated and civilised, unlike the pariah state politicians, are going to ask questions from these diplomats. And the diplomats will have to give concreate answers and cannot bluff like the pariah state politicians.

This should give a taste for the foreign diplomats to feel how it is for the ordinary people to live in the NE with the constant bombardment by the GOSL.. if they (diplomats)were 'terribly frightened' with a day tour to East, just imagine the plight of the ordinary poeple who have to endure this every day!
Great posting. This incident may be a blessing for suffered people by state terrorism.
The German Foreign Ministry called the attack 'a serious incident' and demanded an immediate cessation of hostilities between the government and the rebels.
It called on both sides to return to the negotiating table and seek a sustainable resolution to the conflict based on constructive ideas. The ministry said the European Union was willing to continue its support for the peace process in Sri Lanka |

LTTE deliberately monitored communication channels before this attack
LTTE did not attack the UK foreign secretary when he visited the same region! In fact he landed at the same airfield! so why does US, Italy and German diplomats get a different treatment?
LTTE are well entrenched with Al Quida network in association with Hezbollah supplying and procuring arms.
apparently because of the insurgencies there is a shortage of arms to LTTE because there is a lot of demand in other theaters of operations.
Terrorists act in unison, LTTE is no exception! |

JRJ,
still alive... sorry to disappoint ya!!
Anyway, back to the point isn't it the LTTE whose attacks hit the foreign diplomats buddy?
well you know what happens in a war-zone.. americans have killed their own forces in Iraq, afghanistan, cosova called it a friendly-fire....
so this is not an attack on the foreign diplomats in colombo it just the GOSL risking diplomats lives to prove a point!
i just clip few lines FYI...
'We are shocked by the grave negligance of the security arrangments for the diplomats by the Sri Lankan government that has transported the delegation into the artillery launchpads amid the prevailing atmosphere of provocative artillery attacks.' LTTE's military spokesman further said.
There is a procedure in practice, of informing the LTTE in advance, when foregin diplomats and NGO officials are scheduled to visit war zone. Liberation Tigers Liaison Officer for UN and NGO affairs gets informed with details of the officials and their belongings. The Sri Lankan military establishment has ignored the practice in Batticaloa, he charged |

Chinthanaya : LTTE has no solution now, US supplying laser designators, 500 Lb L-GBUs to Air force, LANTRUM targeting pods, spares and free trucks
India giving free ships, overhauling large ships free of charge and keeping LTTE in control
Rest of the world taking batting practice at LTTE balls all da y and night
this is the reason for the weakness
w/o clear political will there is no direction. LTTE has no direction |

| This is a deliberate and calculated attack by LTTE to show their strength. Like their other actions, this tool will backfire and comeback like a boomarang. SLGOV must safeguard the foreign deplomats and need to neutralize the LTTE threat. Only way to do is to attack the terrorist leaders, not low level fighting cadres. |

Education doesn't mean anything if it lacks common sense. Terrorists are terrorists unless you eliminate terrorism and create democracy there is no point in sending 'Error reports' which are not going to facilitate a proper file.

Sri Lanka Governments plot to kill foreign diplomats foiled
Written by Roshan Perera
Tuesday, 27 February 2007
The U.S., Italian and German ambassadors to Sri Lanka received minor injuries when a military helicopter they were traveling in came under fire at air force base on Tuesday. Sri Lankan government authorities brought them to Tamil area without given notice to Tamil forces. It is believed that Sri Lankan military fired artillery on Tamil areas before the diplomats land, sources said.
Italian ambassador Pio Mariani suffered a 'minor head injury,' sources said. He was airlifted to a nearby hospital. U.S. ambassador Robert Blake and German envoy Jurgen Weerth also received minor injuries. Other casualties in the attack included seven Sri Lankan forces and two air force personnel. |
