It is highly unlikely the Tigers will declare UDI now .. they need the EAST which is really the golden egg in the EELAM basket

Sure, an Eelam without Trinco and East is unbelievable.

Robins,

LTTE are different they are dictating the events and out come of whatever the solution is going to be!!

I believe no sinhala party will put forward a solution that would be acceptable to Tamils or the LTTE!

Two points you quote here;

LTTE no doubt has a huge support of the tamils as there are no other alternatives to make a voice of(the others have been mercilessly crushed by them). So the outcome obviously has to be par with the LTTE demands.

Secondly, I believe the Sinhalese parties are aware of the ordinary Sinhalese mentality which is vulnerbale and insecure should there be a tamil dominant state (I discussed this with Ariyalai_SB a few times) due to the NEs tendency to merge with the TN and create a sufficient impact on the South (this is exactly why Manmohan is against the LTTEs eelam factor). I guess that is quite a valid phenomenon. Whether this phenomenon is true or hypothetical is another issue to discuss.

All in all its imperative that the GOSL is cautious on any form of devolution due to its sensitivity pertaining to their political life span in the country. Similar to what Pirapa thinks to hold onto his dictatorial power without letting any other taking his place.

Certainly the debate is on. We have to wait and see. I personally believe if the PCs are fully implemented we need not talk in more details. This is why JRJ was forced to do in 1987 under the Indo-Lanka peace accord where JVP went on rampage. In 1988 there were elections for PCs and I believe that let the way to parties such as EPRLF in. The function was not as rosy as it first thought of.

Whatever the case is some form of devolution is required in Tamil dominant areas, whether its democratising the LTTE or not, these areas need to be given the democracy for sure.

I think their conventional fighting ability is now entirely restricted to the northern regions.

not true, but they have their own administration is the northern tregion. it does not mean the ltte is not a conventional force. it is like, your govt do not have the control over vanni, does it man your govt forces are not a conventional one?
on top,,,no freedom org need to hold a territory.

The tigers WERE the symptom back in the eighties and nineties, the SL government was definitely the cause.. however, at this present moment in history Mr.Blake believes they are (majority wise) the cause:
as long as there is no political package for the tamil Q from the govt of srilanka, the tigers will remain a symptom not the cause.

It is highly unlikely the Tigers will declare UDI now .. they need the EAST which is really the golden egg in the EELAM basket.

not true!

the fear of N & E state merging alliance with S India on one hand !!

the reality of living with war lies and destruction in Sri Lanka!!!

What a contradiction!!

If you look back!! The sinhalese feared any political solution was detrimental even before the LTTEs came on the scene!!!This was when the Tamil politicians 'sleeping around' with the sinhala politicians under democracy honey and milk!!

How long are they going to fear about fears and prolong the solution, as a result materialising the real fears or almost forcing it to happen!
