IC has discriminated against LTTE by not suggesting LTTE record of Human right protection in the North.

Lankans nominated for HR defenders award

Two Sri Lankans have been nominated for the prestigious Martin Ennals Award (MEA) for Human Rights Defenders 2007.

Prof. Rajan Hoole and Kopalasingham Sritharan, co-founders of the University Teachers for Human Rights are among the six nominees for the award.

The jury will announce the final MEA laureate on May 4 and the award will be presented at a ceremony in Geneva on October 2. The MEA, set up in 1993, is granted annually to an individual or an organization who has displayed exceptional courage in combating human rights violations.

As co-founders of the University Teachers for Human Rights (Jaffna) (UTHR(J)), Rajan Hoole and Kopalasingham have addressed human rights abuses by both the government and the LTTE.

?At great personal risk they have reported on the effects of armed conflict on children, women, minorities and displaced persons. Often alone in exposing abuses by all parties, both men are under death sentences from the LTTE and their co-founder, Rajani Thiranagama was assassinated. They have been forced to work underground,? MEA said.

Well, Prof Hoole is a renowned local scientist who had to flee SL due to LTTE threats and is a vehement campaigner against the LTTE terrorism...

Good to see that his work is appreciated by world bodies in the backdrop of LTTE false propaganda...

The LTTE fellows wouldn't like this....I am sure...for them, Prof. Hoole is another traitor deserving the fate of Lakshman Kadiragarmar...

Sripathi and Mangala become hapless
Ousted former Minister Sripathi Sooriaarachchi has alleged that there?s a mud slinging campaign against him and ousted former Minister Mangala Samaraweera.

As far as anyone can see, no one needs to sling mud at them because they are already covered with their own mud arising out of their irresponsible an unpatriotic statements.

Sripathi?s statement that the Government Forces rescued a deserted Vakarai is an insult and humiliation to our heroic soldiers.

Mangala in his letter to the President saying that the President overlooked human rights abuses by the forces has played into the hands of the LTTE enhancing their false propaganda machine and bringing shame and humiliation to the Government.

Both of them should not be seated as back benchers but should be expelled from the SLFP.

Both Sripathi and Mangala have become hapless and they can join the bankrupt pro-LTTE Marxist politician Wickremabahu Karunaratna that will make an ideal threesome of stooges.

Exactly what the LTTE said !! supported by their ex minister..!! You need to leave the Gosl to expose them...

Berty anna, wa aleikhum salam!

Thanks mate, for tracing back and reading my reply which I posted after your exit the other day.

Well, as for Mangala, he sure is popular in the south..and he has done remarkably well to upgrade Matara city when he was in power in the CBK gov (did you have any chance of seeing the new Matara city as compared to that before 94?)

So, in fact he is a power to rekon with, no doubt about that..

My opinion for MR is, now that he has successfully nipped the coup in the bud for the time being, it will be best to take Mangala in again and seal the dissention among his vote base...

I see that certain senior elements are working towards this end now..

But will have to wait and see what the outcome will be..

Ahmed
ur welcome..
it does not make any sense for MR to have sacked both Anura and Mangala and then hear all the accusations and then try to bring them back (he has already done that with Anura).in my opinion (after hearing your comments on the voters influence) it looks like MR made a political blunder and he is being exposed with other senior ministers. to cover the corruption the best way is to take them back. is it true with the UNP ministers who joined the govt that these same guys were in the center of corruption charges and by bringing them aboard they are simply covered up together with the top people in the ruling party!!

Berty,

SL politics are never without corruption. That is for sure. and I don't want to look stupid trying to argue otherwise. This goes even for MR and his company, who knows? And when these cross-overs happen, many will have 'analysis' of their own as to why it has happened...is it money..is it to cover corruption..etc..and nobody ever knows exactly why..

and that is the usual scenario with 'analysis', so to speak..

even the 'analysis' I gave you on the sacking of the Mango clan and taking back Anura, is just my way of best explaining what happened..and on the other hand, it might not be what truly happened...(I hope you get my point here)...

We just put ourselves in the picture and try to figure out what is happening due to what....and finally none of us would know for sure the real cause...

and that is normal...it does no harm to the total outcome...

As for me, being a total opposition to LTTE (u know this), what is important is the on going battle against the LTTE by the SLA and the GOSL...and then a all party discussion with all political parties (except LTTE) towards a firm political settlement..

If that objective is achieved, I wouldn't care what exactly happened, as long as everything happened to set the stage for that long-awaited outcome.....The routing of the LTTE...and then a negotiated settlement with the consent of AAll parties except the LTTE eelam dream...
