You read too much into it. Let me clarify.
In the past, the Lankan military regularly got embarrassing beatings by the LTTE, like Jayasikuru & Elephant Pass to name a few. Back then the tigers were a strong outfit, and our miilitary & political top brass were corrupt to the bone. I'm not sayingg they are still clean, but you can't deny that since Mahinda came to power, we are much stronger. The liberation of the east is testament to that.
Granted, if war erupts in the north (and it most probably will), the tigers will fight harder than in the east, where they were already weakened with Karuna's defection. But I'll put my money on the SL tri- forces emerging victorious. |

yes i agree the govt forces walked into vakarai and into the surrounding suburbs. whether the ltte withdraw from these areas or genuinely defeated is the big Q yet to be answered.
according to ltte, they withdrew their forces intact due to the enormous civilian suffering as the military was conducting an offensive operation in 3 folds in one area continuously without considering the civilian casualties.

in your word, you are saying that the whole world was behind the govt of srilanka for the last thirty years regardless of human rights abuse by the state to fight the ltte militarily as well as politically yet failed due to the lack of tactical use of power?

This was never be the case..LTTE was getting all the help from foriegn governments, starting from Canada in North America to Australia in South pacific until SEPTEMBER 11.
Thanks to the Mother of all terrorists, uncle osama bin laden, that has changed now...We see a 360 degree policy change where every government now looking at all freedom struggles with increase suspicion..
LTTE had lost the window of oppurtunity due the greediness of VELU ..He lost the plot just like Yasser Arafat..
