The plan makes sense. Karuna is not useful beyond the east. Cleaning the east was difficult but GOSL has achieved it to a great extent.
Now do you want to replace one rebel army with another that has proved in the past of its indiscipline by murdering over 300 Sinhalese police officers in cold blood? Is bringing more heat to the GOSL because of child soldiers, murders and kidnapping?
So now the army has recovered LTTE mines and other explosive devices. So plant it and send with two SL officers. Bannnnnnng. |

Yes, Karuna supports the unitary state because he believes in democracy than terrorism. So the last thing that the Sinhalese want is to see him dying and destroying the dreams of the eastern tamils and the rest.
Devolution of power may/may not prevent the state as unitary in lines with the PCs. Imagine Karuna becoming the CM in the eastern province?
