The Department of Inland Revenue is hunting for high spenders to widen its tax net.
Commissioner General of Inland Revenue A.A. Wijepala said there are life-style magazines in the country, which highlight personal parties of some high spenders.
Photographs in these magazines show that a large amount of money has been spent on these parties.
`If these people could host parties spending large amounts of money they also could pay taxes to the Government. We are now focusing on this segment to expand our tax net,` the Commissioner General said. The Department is doing its inspections at night and holidays to track people such as club members and club owners evading taxes.
Raiding night clubs and casino clubs should be done at night. `Commercial activities of these places commence at dusk and it has also helped us to identify a large amount of illegal activities, at these places,` he said.
Department officials also found a drug, `Ecstasy` a tablet sold at Rs 12,000 in these night clubs. If members could spend such a large amount of money daily they need to pay their taxes to the Government, he said.
So far they have raided 12 casino clubs, 10 night clubs and a considerable number of brothels.

They will find son's & daughters of all ministers in these clubs.
then what are they going to do?
Those were tax expemted.
food for thought.....
Singapore Government introduced gambling clubs and were run by government.
These clubs are one of the ways that Singapore collect the revenue from high spenders.
Why not GOSL also create a gambling zone and get all the high spenders to come and collect the revenue ? |

They are not looking for sons and daughters of ministers but other high spenders who will be able to bribe them proper.
At the rate the cost of living has increased taking 500/1000 makes no sense. |

Mr.Wijepala, why you holding the lamp is the brothel houses?
The money you are looking for, is in the hand of big fat rats in the Parliment...
Why you are looking for the Mouse, instead of catching elephant..
Are you trying make publicity of yourself?
Do not pork your nose in unauthorized places, and damage your back..
If you are entering the brothel houses..First you must get permission from JVP..
Only,mind your own business,not others,,
If not,you will end up like the donkey, who try to do the job of a dog..lol |

| Tax man needs bit of common sense!! It would be nice to know how much they are going to collect through these methods. Compared to what the govt. earn as tax, Revenue Dept. is running at a loss. |

Mr Tax man!
There are better ways to collect taxes, than visiting brothels, night clubs and weddings.Don't take revenge on the enterprising private sector,by doing the dirty work of the politicians, who have no interest in the country or it's people's daily struggles..first raid your own ranks, customs(biggest bribe takers),ministers who set you up and their kids who indulge in extravagances. How about the 40 million stashed in HNB by a corrupt ex minster?will you visit their wealth put away abroad.just find a life!By the way, where will this collected money be used? |
