Do you know what is a constitution ? Do you ever read the sri lankan one ?

KURAL,

You are absolutely WRONG on this. Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka no where mentions that one must be a Sinhala Buddhist to become the president of the country.

Article 31(1) of Chapter VII (The Executive) outlines the requirements one should fulfill to become eligible to contest for the post of President, and no such constraint is imposed anywhere in that whole article.

This is an utter lie spread by Eelamists and like-minded, and unfortunately there are always some people who believe these myths.

Gunapala:

To be honest I suspect the validity of this statement.
I can even hear (Through my headphone)someone else is reading this statement and this fellow is just imitating him.

I can understand you.

LTTE high rankers are still not sure whether they killed Rajeev or not.

SWRD,

you seem to be on a vendetta against him because of his sympathy for the tamils.

You seem to have lost the plot don't you? I have nothing against people talking of tamils' rights. I am of course concerned when Terrorists are sympathised left, right and the centre by those who live on NGO dollars and paving the way to killing innocent people. If that hat fits anyone's head, then better wear it without any remorse.

JRJayawardena

you seem to be very selective in your concerns. where is your concern when an elected government turn terrorist and kidnaps and torture its own citizens, tamils and sinhalease? when there is a culture of human rights abuses in the country it is unwise to jump into conclusions before a person is charged and proven guilty. but you have got into a lynch mentality and encouraging instant justice and torture. it's you who has lost the plot buddy and wearing that hat over your eyes!

This is true.

A Tamil did contest in the first ever 1982 Presidential elections and got SECOND place from the NORTHERN province. A Sinhalese came first. (Not the ruling party candidate)

All,

when exactly did this war start. 1956, 1958 , 1977 .....

The WAR started only in 1983.

However the ethnic division started somewhere in mid 1920s, when representatives from ALL communities started fighting for the biggest share they can get from British. Unlike in India where the communities got together to fight for their common freedom (at least till Jinnah departed) in Sri Lanka everyone wanted the maximum possible.

After 1920s, once the fire has been lit BOTH parties out petrol to it from time to time, as and when it is convenient for them.

The only political force that put a little water to the fire was LSSP and left (within limits) but that was not enough to encounter the petrol put to it by the Sinhalese and Tamil racist political forces.

Yesterday LTTE killed the Hindu priest who garlanded the President when he visited the East recently. What kind of animals. They can't support these murderers like the three deadly Bishops do.
Why can't these government politicos warn these innocent people who do their duty to refrain from doing their function to government big wigs. This will just to save these innocent lives till the government eradicate this menace.
(Excuse for goign out of the topic.I have no other place to post this important item.)
