Ari,

How many of the Sinhalese who participate in these forums support a Federal Solution?

I think we have met before and swapped some views and you know its hard to see where tigers stand on this issue other than an EELAM which is impractical and will not materialise.

So how come a genuine Sinhalese support for the LTTE or their hench brats TNA in any way when the only thing they know is uttering for peace talks which does not mean anything other than getting reinforced to follow with more shelling bombs and causing instability in the South which we see.

Please pay a visit on my webpage for my sentiments on Sivajilingam.

JRJ,

It is simple; why not put a federal proposal on the table, then you can make the comments, not before.

GOSL does not need IC, LTTE, TNA nor anyone else; they can simply put the proposal on the table. Now, why don't they do that?

Bread shortage looms in Jaffna

TamilNet, Sunday, 04 February 2007, 19:55 GMT

Shortage of wheat flour in Jaffna will soon force the bakery owners in Jaffna peninsula to cease baking bread, civil society sources in Jaffna said. The stock of wheat flour at the Jaffna Secretariat had reached dangerously low levels while shipment of flour into the peninsula has been completely suspended, officials close to flour distribution in Jaffna Secretariat said.

The ship 'City of Liverpool' which brought wheat flour to Point Pedro harbour from Trincomalee, was taken to Kankesanthurai harbour and the flour was unloaded there, when it was attacked in January, alleged Point Pedro residents.

The Government Agent Jaffna, while accepting the wheat flour stock with the Secretariat is low, refused to comment on if this will result in shortage of bread in Jaffna.

Bread production in the peninsula has been reduced by 40% because the amount of wheat flour issued to them by the Jaffna District Secretariat has been temporarily limited, the bakery owners said.

The owners further said that the GA has cancelled licences given to the bakers to produce buns and biscuits.

With the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) closure of the A9 route to Jaffna in August 2006 blocking essential food items to Jaffna peninsula, almost all families in the peninsula eat bread at least for one meal and the stoppage of bread production will affect all layers of the Jaffna society, civil sources in Jaffna said.

FORCED RECRUITMENT ON MASSIVE SCALE BY TIGERS IN NORTH

By D.B.S. Jeyaraj

This then is the grim, gloomy scenario unfolding in the LTTE dominated north. The so called liberators of the Tamil people are busy recruiting people forcibly to be conscripted into tiger ranks. The rationale is manpower requirement necessary to launch the ''Iruthi Por'' (final war). All oppression is being justified as being necessitated by the Tamil cause.

Ordinary Tamil civilians want no part of this war. They only want to be left alone so that they can get along with their life. Sadly that is being denied to them. The tigers, anti-tiger groups and security forces are all together crushing the hopes and aspirations of the ordinary Tamil while blaming each other. That is the Tamil tragedy!!.

Ari,

A mere word of Federal will not materialise unless the government gets a mandate from the people of the country. The reason I say this is we both know that MR came to power in the hands of Marxist JVPers who are not to mention stand for nothing but the Unitary state. So if the government take a different stand first Mahinda has to go for fresh polls asking to alter his So-Called Chinthana and get a fresh mandate without depending on JVP and changing.

So what I gather from the outset is Mahinda is running a Ranil chinthana than his own thus kicking the stranded Marxist out of the picture. But he does not want to destabilise the South hence he does not like to use the word Federal, instead he uses something else. How long does it take to let the cat outta the bag, I am not sure. But for sure we know its Ranil at work in other way.

What is going to happen more likely is a fresh poll to get the sorting out of the mess, and that will decide how much the government really willing to put ahead or not. I can safely say that what ever the talks go ahead federalism will not materialise easily unless there is a growing concern to do so. meanwhile we have to wait and see.

On a Personal note I would like to see implementation of the PCs to full extent so that is one way of getting the message across each region if the Federal sounds so brunt for the southern masses.

TN has become 'haven for militants', says Jayalalithaa

Chennai, Feb. 5 (PTI): The AIADMK today alleged that Tamil Nadu had turned into a 'haven' for LTTE militants after the DMK was voted to power.

Speaking at the party's general council meeting at suburban Vanagaram, AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa alleged that after the DMK was voted into power, 'Tamil Nadu has become a haven for militants.'

She accused the DMK government of giving a free reign to LTTE activists.

'When I was the Chief Minister, I made the Centre ban the LTTE in the country. I was also responsible for continuation of the ban. But the LTTE is now having a free hand,' she told partymen.

JRJ,

Thanks very much for being honest with me. I tell you that this has been the story of the Sri Lankan Tamils since the Independence day. This is why the LTTE is of the view the Sinhalese will never give anything! Can you blame them?

What has happened to the UNP and SLFP alliance? Why did MR accept the cross-overs? Wasn't the alliance more important to resolve the national crises than short term political gains? Do you believe that MR has the political will to face up to the chauvinists?

PCs; you must be kidding!

Renovated Jetty Eases Congestion
2007-02-05 03:14:17

MAILADY NAVAL JETTY in Jaffna that remained abandoned and unserviceable nearly four years was resurrected, thanks to tireless efforts jointly made by Navy and Army troops and put to use Saturday (3) after extensive renovation was done.

The first cargo consignment of essential items on ?Hindom? ship on Saturday (3) unloaded nearly 61 metric tonnes of rice, chillies, washing powder and other essentials after resuming the Jetty?s operations. Those items were hurriedly dispatched to different areas with the help of Army drivers causing minimum delay to the public.

The renovation of this Jetty further eases the congestion that exists in Point Pedro and Kankesanthurai ports as regards unloading work of the consignments that reaches Jaffna peninsula.

A large number of labourers actively supported the troops and expedited the unloading work to ensure those items reach Jaffna civilians in time. Kankesanthurai and Point Pedro harbours were being used to unload consignments of essentials that arrive in ships for distribution.

However, the recent attempted attack on ?City of Liverpool? by LTTE terrorists hampered the work at Point Pedro Jetty and caused delays in unloading work. The opening of the renovated Jetty enables the speedy distribution of essentials to the peninsula dispensing with all setbacks that confronted such deliveries.

Captain of the ship ?Hindom? Ishak Yusuf and Security Forces Commander, Jaffna Major General G.A. Chandrasiri and a host of Army and Navy Officers attended the event.

A sum of Rs 3 million was released to the renovation of the Mayladi Jetty under Jathika Saviya Programme.

A fleet of 40 lorries were used for this purpose on the first day.

Ariyalai,

This is why the LTTE is of the view the Sinhalese will never give anything! Can you blame them?

Since when did the LTTE begin to represent the Tamils? The very tamils it claims to 'starve' with an acute bread shortage courtesy of the human torpedo that bore a hole in the hull of 'city of Liverpool' which was unloading tonnes and tonnes of flour?

And you say Sinhalese will never give anything? So what? vage war over the remaining 93% of the community including the Muslims? Even if it means destroying the future generations of tamils, dispersing Tamils all around the world as refugees?

Sinhalese thus far have been quite flexible. So flexible that some have entertained the idea of Tamil self-determination to the point that some of them have even advocated a federal solution to the problem. While the Sinhalese has thus shown some flexibility, what form flexibility has the LTTE shown for the past 23 years? Not even to its former military commander's wishes its been flexible. Thus who can blame the Sinhalese for not giving anything to the LTTE? 1/3 of the landmass and 2/3 of its coastline for a 7% minority is just purposterous.

Even if eelam or a federal state is granted do you expect the Tamils aborad living lavishly and 80% of those living in the South of SL to re-settle themselves in the North? Dream on.

If you people don't understand the principles of ethnic harmony (blaming Sinhalese for oppression and butchering Muslims? What for?) and as a community allow your voice to be robbed by the LTTE, making purposterous demands, then give one good reason why the Sinhalese should continue to tolerate you outside of your so called traditional homelands.
