1977 was a clear cut madate from the Tamil people.
Back in the '70's and '80's a lot of wrong things happened...
LTTE started with Alfred duraiappa and killed 13 SLA. And JR wanted to bring the dead bodies of the SLA troupers to Colombo for a showdown funeral against the advises of Lalith Athulathmudali and Ranasingha Premadasa...and it gave rise to a communal backlash from a few thugs supported by a few opportunitistic forces....and this gave the LTTE an ample opportunity to weave a theory against the majority sinhalese saying that the Sinhala people are killing the Tamils...and then the country went in to turmoil..JVP insurgency crippled the state and the civillian life in addition to the LTTE killings in the North and East....The political parties were going haywire with no practicable consensus on a political solution or on the LTTE terrorism...
Well, that was a hectic era back then....
I do feel now the present GOSL is on the right path against the LTTE and towards settling the decade long despute. Edited By - ahmadineja - 5 Feb 2007 06:26:17 GMT |

I see that Vavuniya and mannar are places that Killinochchi is eyeing now to offset the GOSL military onslaught....
We will have to wait and see the out come
Or at least that is what they want you to think.
Now as for the 77 elections, that was all before 83 and the LTTE were a handful of angry Tamil youth, with rusty old guns.
The government had a chance to wake up and address the peaceful protest of the Tamil people at that time, instead they banned the TULF and treated them to their typical violent outbursts.
After which the Tamil people finally realized that the Sinhala state needed to be talked to in its own language, and so here were are today. |

BTW does anyone have anynews onwhat exactly is happening to that Jordanian ship? Our resident specialsauce claims it was infact a massive arms shipment for the LTTE that they have successfuly (obviously) obtained.
Of course I think he is just blowing smoke 80% of the time, so despite joking about the same I am doubtful, given that the crew are still free. |

| No news Revy, last we heard was that it has run aground and the holding company sent two tugs to tow it to deep sea. But other than that, no news. |

Yes, I also remember seeing an article some 1 month ago speculating that the Jordanian ship could be an arms shipment to the LTTE...
Yet I have only seen one article to this effect so far, and no solid military analysis carried this speculation strongly
So, I for one have my doubts, but could turn out to be worse.. |

Mr. Brown,
It seems that the Pro-LTTE barrage was successfully defeated here for about 30-40 minutes now...everybody with LTTE sentiments have withdrawn, or 're-Positioned', as would Rasaiah Ilanthiriyan would say! Edited By - ahmadineja - 5 Feb 2007 07:23:14 GMT |
