Ari,
What has happened to the UNP and SLFP alliance? Why did MR accept the cross-overs? Wasn't the alliance more important to resolve the national crises than short term political gains? Do you believe that MR has the political will to face up to the chauvinists?
PCs; you must be kidding!
Thanks for the reply. To be honest with you I don't have any faith in Mahinda despite I am being a Sinhalese Buddhist. The reason is very clear; Mahinda in the first place pretended that he loves the Sinhalese Buddhist UNITARY concept then duped the Marxist JVPers to beat Ranil by the skin of the teeth and you know why, Pirapa didn't allow tamils to vote for Ranil and the rest is history Ari.
The second phase of the Mahinda Saga is he knew its a mighty hard job than he first thought to keep the Marxist happy and the 'Unitary' term is increasingly getting hit hard by the IC due to flip flopping economy and you know very well we depend on few big businesses to run our country and if those fall then that is it for our country especially now that since 1977 its absoultely stupid to call all but Marxist establishment to the political landscape. So all in all our Friend Mahinda knew the best thing is to kick out his helpers (JVP) and embrace his arch rivals thus destroying any slender chance of Ranil returning to the helm.
Now as you question, its Mahinda driving the car of Ranil Chinthana. I would not be surprised if he starts massacring the JVP uprising like Premadasa did in 89. If that takes place you will first tell me 'JRJ, you are correct in your analysis'.
Anyway, what I don't see is how the Federalism is coming to the equation without fresh polls being called upon. Because in order to change the constitution 2/3rd majority is required but now with the cross-overs the UNPers are at tenterhooks. So its a big issue. My feeling is that Prof. Witharana's package of power devolution (which is almost good as federal or same) will be talked in the next few months and put forward via publications and a possible referendum be held upon public will decide what to do. remember 1980s referendum when the UNP won with the lamp and the pot scenario.
Now, about PCs. No, I am not kidding. I have to be honest with you. WHen JRJ brought up PCs it meant to be devolution of power in 1987. The only drawback that had was it was not implemented as it should have. If you scrupulously look at it again its one of the best ways of devolving power; not only NE but all the rest of the provinces. So I believe it still is a point to reckon with.

Talk to LTTE; TNA tells President
It is correct,LTTE represent the most of the Tamils in Sri Lanka, and they are once, really care about them..
So, it is the proper way to do it..If GOSL is really interested,,
What about the Politicians in the Sri Lankan..
They are not consulting this 'Brown Kakos' in Askiriya to before making any decision in Major issues like,Tsunami fund..etc
It is similar to that..
There is harm in it to talk to the LTTE.. |
