266 Tamils arrested in search operation in Colombo

Sri Lanka Police said 266 Tamils, including 53 women, were arrested in a dawn to noon house-to-house search operation, conducted by hundreds of police and armed troops in Fort area and its suburbs in Colombo city, Saturday. They are detained in Fort Police Station and are being interrogated by specially appointed police investigation teams, the police said. The police said the arrested are Tamils are permanent residents of Jaffna district.

Vehicles garaged in houses and business establishment were also searched during the operation, sources said.

Police said this special operation had been conducted in tightening the security of the city in preparation to the 59th anniversary Independence Day celebration, Sunday.

Government security forces have been conducting random cordon and search operations in several parts of the Colombo city where Tamils move in large numbers.

Meanwhile, police said that a claymore mine was recovered during a cordon and search operation in Maligawatte, a suburb in Colombo city, Saturday.

Police further said the two kg claymore mine was found in a three-wheeler parked in a house in the area.

Then they arrest all the Tamils!! looks like a panic measure!!

This has been going on for the last thirty years!!!

This is to create room for the SL cabinet to have a meeting. Get rid of space used by 266 tamils and then you can accommodate some of the modayas from a cabinet.

I wonder whether the UN assembley would be kind enough to give their chamber for our great cabinet. After all the UN is a talking shop with no action how about giving it to our guys ?

Not only Tamils 200 Sinhalese and 60 Muslims also arrested by Police, But TAMILNET published only number of Tamils,
By that we can understand how big there PUNNKU is,,,

Don't worry guys they will release them after the independent ceremony ... they just want to keep them just in case ...

I'm sure they can go home after that...

and i don't believe the bomb case too ,,, it's just a setup...

These SLA and GOSL have become 'very smart'... to show they are not bias... they may be also arresting some Sinhalas and Muslims...! sorry for poor Tamils!

Allege LTTE gunmen kill a Tamil youth - Vavuniya

A body of a Tamil youth alleged shot dead by the LTTE gunmen was recovered at Kulumaduwa junction, seven miles along the Vavuniya - Mannar Road, on Saturday the 03rd of February, at 11:15 a.m.

The victim identified as Rajeshwaran Rajasenthuran (24) was a resident at Marakkaran - Pallai Street, 11th Mile post, Nellukkulama in Vavuniya. 'Rajeshwaran was an auto-rickshaw driver and has received several threats from local LTTE agents', said Mrs.T. Leela, a relative of the victim.

According to eyewitness, four youth in similar attire worn by the LTTE , riding two motor bikes had rounded up Rajeswaran's three-wheeler and opened fire at the victim and fled instantly. The victim's relative with the assistance of several civilians had immediately rushed the severely injured youth to the General Hospital at Vavuniya.

Later the Tamil youth has succumbed to his injuries while undergoing intensive medical treatment said the Vavuniya hospital sources.

The body of the youth is placed at the Vavuniya hospital morgue for further investigations. Meanwhile the Vavuniya Hospital sources said, Mrs. Rajeshwaran Rasanayagee, the mother of the victim has identified the body during the post-mortem.
