More parties for new Batti alliance

More Tamil parties including EROS and TELO expressed their willingness to join the alliance proposed by the EPDP to contest the polls to nine local bodies in the Batticaloa district.
The EPDP, an ally of the ruling coalition, proposed this alliance after a meeting held with representatives of political parties planning to contest the election. The parties in this new alliance include the EPDP, TMVP (Pillayan Faction), PLOTE and EPRLF (Vartharajah faction). However, EPDP leader and Social Services and Social Welfare Minister Douglas Devananda told the Daily Mirror yesterday that EROS, TELO and TMVP (Karuna faction) also came forward to join forces in this exercise.
Asked how the TELO could be a party to this alliance as it is already a part of the TNA which has opposed this mini poll, Mr. Devananda said some of its members had decided to be part of this alliance.
He said for the time being, he would not reveal the names of these persons, adding that the alliance would make a decision whether it should accommodate these new parties or not.

Jayalalitha is a wingeing old hag who is trying desperately to make a political comeback using the LTTE as a scapegoat to curry favour with the Congress party in the hope that the DMK govt will be sacked.
There is certainly evidence that the LTTE is gaining a foothold in Tamil Nadu again but this is with the tacit approval of the DMK. I am sure the Congress party is aware of this but they can't antagonise the DMK which is propping up the Congress led coalition at the centre.
The LTTE is in a very good position to exploit this and why shouldn't it. GOSL may scream as long and as loud as it wants about this but the DMK support is more important to the Congress party than the wishes of the government of a corrupt, unruly and failing state of Sri lanka. |
