WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEAD CFA?? part1

Sri Lanka leader sacks parliament

President Kumaratunga sought to extend her term of office
President Chandrika Kumaratunga has dissolved the Sri Lankan parliament, paving the way for snap elections.
National ballots for the 225-member legislature will be held on 2 April, nearly four years ahead of schedule.

Mrs Kumaratunga has been in a power struggle with Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe since his party took control of parliament in December 2001.

The political battle between the two has undermined the peace process with the Tamil Tiger rebels.

The pair are divided over who should control the crucial defence ministry, which the president took away from the prime minister last November when she also declared a state of emergency.

Mr Wickramasinghe has argued that he cannot run the peace process with Tamil Tiger rebels without the defence portfolio.

For their part, the Tamil Tiger rebels have said the row has left the government crippled and undermines the ceasefire in the 20-year civil war.

Defence Secretary urges: Ban LTTE, end truce

The Government can make a fresh start to address Tamil grievances once it officially bans the LTTE and abolishes the Ceasefire Agreement signed with the LTTE, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said yesterday.

In an exclusive interview with the Daily News, Defence Secretary Rajapaksa said the Ceasefire Agreement has become a joke in the eyes of the people with so many violations.

?The Ceasefire Agreement exists only on paper. Obviously we can see that there is no Ceasefire. It has become a joke,? the Defence Secretary said.

He said so many Governments have signed a number of Ceasefire Agreements in the past since the Thimpu Agreement.
Once you sign a Peace Agreement and then you come to the next Ceasefire Agreement or whatever agreement, you must abolish the other
previous
one. It had never happened. From the Thimpu Agreement there are so many peace agreements including the Indo Lanka Agreement,? Rajapaksa added.

?I think the most sensible thing is that we must end this Ceasefire Agreement by officially declaring there is no Ceasefire Agreement.

Why should we hoodwink the people by saying there is a Ceasefire Agreement?,? the Defence Secretary asked. The Defence Secretary said the LTTE should be banned since it is terrorist organisation.

?It is a terrorist organisation and we are fighting them,? he said.

He said President can come out with new proposals for resolving the grievances of the Tamil people after the Ceasefire Agreement is abrogated and the LTTE is banned.

?We should not give solutions to the LTTE which is a terrorist organisation. The LTTE is just a part of the Tamil people and solutions should be given to the Tamil people,? he stressed.

Asked whether the LTTE would be given ?time? before it is banned, he said the President would give an opportunity for the LTTE to mend its ways prior to imposing any ban, Rajapaksa added.

He said that the military victories will definitely pave the way for a peaceful solution to the North East problem as successive Governments had failed to combat terrorism though they had genuine political solutions.

Hmm......Who is responsible for the Dead CFA??

there are lot of people ..should be responsible.....

in first place, I'll put the blame on JR, who brought in the current system......this system is a total mess up in the parliament and has to be replaced...

the executive power, possiblity of having the president and the government from two different parties.....etc are i think applicable only in our country....nowhere else...

suppose, UNP could win a general election and RW becomes PM, while still MR is the president.....MR'll be looking for any chance to dessolve the parliament and call for any election (as happended with CBK and RW)....this is a total mess.... JRJ's constitution and his system is reposnsible for all of this

there is no doubt the JR's constitution is designed to keep the power among the majority and there is not a tiny bit of possibility to uphold the values of secularism, pluralism and democracy on the ground level,,

the elected president becomes a dictator with all his executive powers no need to answer to the parliament for his actions,,

the mass murderer chandrika was not exception and used the executive president power to sack the same *peoples verdict* ranil at that time in the hope of scuttling the CFA on the first place,, then the ltte lost the hope and started to violate the CFA further!!

Very true statement
That is why All the srilankan parliamentarians ARE ONLY SINHALESE.
And Pro LTTE goons couldn't come to the Parliament what so ever.
TNA is in the Tamilnadu Parliament

And Muslim congress is in Saudi Arabia

While Thonda is in Galapagos islands

And Also LTTe love pluralism as they allowed all the Tamil parties to contest In General elections.also to carry out their politics in N $ E

you are a star

What a true posting

Tiggs
Lets be honest. Both sides were not interested in permanent peace. Both were preparing for the next war. VP did not anticipate the massive gap in air defences. It was VP who elected MR and then gave MR the excuses to start the offensives( Land mines in Jaffna, Bombing of Sarath Fonseka and Mavilaru).

I think the Srilankan government used a large part of Tsunami aid to buy Laser guided bombs and spy planes. Tiger intelligence failed miserably in not calculating the aerial bombardment that has been the decisive factor in all the battles so far:))
