Bibile and back. ...........Update from Dec 2007.
Friday, 21 December 2007 - 11:02 AM SL Time

Guys,

Just got home to Scarborough safe and sound in one peice from good old Sri Lanka. I am very happy that I made this trip to Bibile as soon as landed there because, if I had waited a few days to make the trip I wouldn`t have due to the traffic and the heat. I don`t know when our fellows will learn to obey the rules of the road. I am sure I would be driving like that too, if I had driven.

I am thankful to you guys for giving me the opportunity to handle this humanitarian work. My hat is off to the good folks of Bibile, Pitakumbura and Kadurugala for their interest in the venture and the continued support. These are the type of people one need in one`s village. They all pitch together and share their responsibilities without pointing fingers and finding faults. Unbelivable bunch of people. When we arrived from Kandy it got pretty late and these parents of the Navoday School had prepared lunch and were waiting for us to join them. We were exhausted when we reached Bibile and were about hit the sheets without dinner. But we had to oblige them and taste their home made savory dishes.

Next day we went to see the progress of the LNP sponsored house for the blind lady. When we were going there my thoughts were how the hell did Mr.Ekanayake find this place and this family. It was in a very remote area where the unpaved roads had been washed away to the torrential rains. With careful driving by my bro`s friend, Ajja we slowly reached our destination. My first thought seen the progress was `Man, this is Quality work` the foundation was completed and the brick walls were going up as you can see. May be it has reached roof level now. The Main man, `Bassunnehe` know his work and the quality of the foundation and brick work was excellent. This is the kind of guys I would hire if I ever built a house. Our man, Mr.Ekanyake is on top of the whole works there and supervising the progress. He and his non-assuming partners have kept records of all expenses. Even the bus tickets are accounted for and saved. Mr. Ekanayake who is from Passara has the backing of this village and he is one we can easily call `A go-getter` kind of guy. I only wish he finds a nice girl and settles down soon.

I met the Kadurugala Police OIC, Madam Education Director and the forest office and I thanked them on behalf of you guys. The Temporary hut was built by the Bibile and Kadurugala Police. This is an example of good Police work!

My sincere thanks to the Staff, kids and the parents Navodaya School
who treated us like family. I will post the school photos here soon.

Maka,

Sira had a family matter to attend the day we went there and he could join us. Otherwise we could have 'Set wenna thibuna' It was non stop drinking and eating for 20 days.

Maka, I didn't have much time shopping as I hated going to colombo due to traffic. BTW I had a few DD in few places.
Man a local bottal is over 600 bucks. Mendis Special 12 year old for RS.1450.00..............but some still enjoy life.

Maka, I have some Ambul thiyala and some fine Talaguli. I am sure its not going to last long. Man, I heard that you guys went through 2 snow storms. Hope your driving was safe. Wish you guys a happy holiday!

Kanks, Zaha,

Yes, I had a good time. Lots of travelling. Tired is not the word. Can't take this anymore at this age.

Kanks, Man, your whole area is unrecognizable. So much change. Roads are so wide there. Sri Sumangala has a fine new school after Tsunami.

Met your mum and BIL. Will send pix later. went to beautiful Bandarawela and your place. What a nice place that is. Great view.

Astro,

This is 'Kahagolla bath Kade' on the way to Bibile.

Yes, the Local food with hot rice, Parippu and a pol sambole does wonders when you are hungry. Better then these
5 star hotel garbage.
