| Nice one. I enjoy fishing trips. Now I want to make it a business. What you call mixing business with pleasure. But I cannot be full time. I would like to hear from you mate as to your line of work, etc. There is huge potential in a peaceful and beautiful location. |

By the way my biggest catch was a blue marlin of 36kg. |

yep...went on a small fishing trip before x'mas. the weather was bad and sun never came out...it was drizzling but the seas were calm... caught one small barra around 4 killos and that was about it :(
Missed out on suspected kingfish over 20 kilos after a screaming run on my penn 12/0 but he was lucky to get away :)

Mate i can't tell you the industry i'm in cos it's a little sensitive with the info i've shared on this forum :)

wish the conditions in our country were different so that things won't be like this and we can have a friendly open chat but sadly it's not possible :(

Congrats on your bill fish catch. i've never caught a bill fish just yet... the restrictions on boat motors keeps us away from those fishing grounds... the boats i use now can't do high speed trolling and they don't have riggers etc...
we have custom built rod holders that are fixed onto the boat and we troll right off the rod..
I've been offshore fishing for about 2 years now but have been fishing nearly all my life since our house was close to some good fishing spots... Actually our garden was bordering a small inland waterhole where i started to fish since i was a kid. About 15 years or so ago i moved upto proper casting tackle and started beach and river casting.
After starting offshore i gave up on casting but planning on starting it back for sheer relaxation aspect of it.
Just bought some 1/2oz bill lewis rattle traps online as the starter kit for it...
If you're into fishing forums etc... I'm on www.thehulltruth.com as RollerGuide. they have many forums but i'm only active in the sportfishing forum
When you say business...what kinda business are we walking about. I love fishing as a pass time and i read up a lot on it...not to mention the inside sportfishing DVD's i collect also :)
But i'm no way an expert on it just yet :)

In a nut shell, water sports, joy rides and fishing rides for tourists coupled with real fishing. |

there are a few places already here that offers the same but none of them have the technical expertise IMHO.
I've contacted a few places myself to book a few fishing tours but was not at all happy with their knowledge on the topic.
Watersports on the other hand has caught on really well.
Planning on getting my diving license soon and starting to learn water skiing :)
Bentota area is pretty good for these things... you also get sea kayaking, wind surfing, kite surfing etc etc...
hopefully things will get moving for the better faster.
M and the wifey was in hikkaduwa for the new year and the tourists numbers were quite surprisingly high... high enough that i couldn't find a sea kayak for 2 days due to demand |

sadly things don't look all good for us sri lankans here :( more blood shed on the way and all of us will have to prepared for bombings in colombo etc since i doubt ltte will go down without taking as many lives as they could...

I read a lot on fishing etc and am quite familiar with many types/brands of lures, their usage, types of trolling etc etc etc... If there's anything i can help you with if it's needed in the first place...give me a shout :) always ready to help out another sri lankan :)
Sadly mate i'm in a bit of a senior position in the trade i'm specialised in and carrier progression wise i can't make a serious commitment to anything else at present :)
I just reached 30 and going full steam to sort my life out so leaving SL is completely out for me though i had about 3 instances to leave here with much much better financial offerings etc :)
Love the land the people so i'm stuck here by choice :)
But don't hesitate to give me a shout if you need any ideas etc cos i am an ideas man :)
