Eelamaya,
Machan, I doubt this Aid cut is going to have much impact. In fact, I think SL not eligible for much aid since it has moved up in certain economic indicators. SL is no more regarded as a 'poor' country.
US as usual speaks in a forked tongue. On one side it makes veiled threats against Govt while at the same time throttling LTTE in anther front. Don't expect this Aid cut to throw a life line to LTTE.
To the credit of MR, he has done remarkably well militarily. In fact he's got 20% of Tamils 50% of muslims and almost 90% of Sinhalese endorsng his military efforts.
Go to any rural area an SL and you will also see that infrastructure is coming up fast too. I think the fellow has got a bit of Premadasa in him.
However, all this is certainly not enough to make MR a successfull president. He still needs to tackle the human rights abuses, corruption, lawlessness, lethargy and inefficiency in public institutions.
These MCC indicators are a good gauge to verify where we stand.
Right now, MR got the tide going for him, both internationally and nationally. But if he doesn't give a serious ear to these hiccups and burps and occasional dirrhoea he'll end up with some serious illness one day.

You are talking lot of sense today. HR is a major concern in the West and MR biggest enemy will be Clinton, if she wins. The final Eelam war will be fought not in Vanni but in NY or in Washington. MR is slowly paving the path along with his beloved brother!

Eelamaya

So you expect Clinton to come and save the LTTE.....
C'mon man, just one LTTE supporter in the Clinton camp is not going to make Whole of America plunge against GoSL. American has been bitten enough by terrorists. Don't expect it to cuddle LTTE as soon as Clinton arrives.
Besides Clinton needs to survive Obama first. :)
At the same time, SL needs a good FM. Boggles is the stupidest we ever had. Any softening in American policy towards LTTE can be countered if we have good FM.
The final Eelam war will be fought not in Vanni but in NY or in Washington.
No even you believe that. :))) I know you.

Deselection of Sri Lankan state for aid and military hardware is not suffice deproscription of LTTE and if no compromise is on the card with Rajapakse US also must do a Kosovo in Sri Lanka. There are many new states are created and US facilitated because of the oppression the minorities suffer in the hands of terrorist leaders who want to impose their will and control on the helpless minorities.

Sri Lanka shares inch higher in thin trade, rupee up
The rupee ended stronger with dollar inflows. Probably companies are cashing in dollars to pay bonuses and exporters selling dollars,' a currency dealer said. The rupee fell for the first time in eight sessions on December 10 after rising 2.1 percent last week after the central bank doubled the limit on foreign buying in rupee-denominated bonds.
It has risen 4.24 percent from a record life low of 113.57/113.62 hit on Sept. 18. ($1=108.97 rupees)

| Share market would have broken all records in the world and the rupee would have been less than R80 per dollar and the country would have been recording over 10% growth rate and the gold reserves would have been hitting the central bank roof, had the UNP government continued in power for 30 years. Now we take big respite in small good news which is nothing but the small change. |

To be honest with you, LTTE also is poor on HR. This is the biggest advantage GOSL enjoys. But, if things change and LTTE or rather our fellow Tamils will select a decent path, IC will be in our side. Then, Sinhala government will have great difficulty. I see this will happen and the problem will take the center stage in NY resulting in Tamil Eelam eventually!

Tamils need a land to live peacefully, every one agree with that. Tamils have to unite and work with IC to achieve this goal. LTTE is doing well at the moment by defending the North and pockets of East.
There will be a possibility of improving the Human rights situation in North & East by removing the armed forces with the support of IC. |
