9 SLFP MPs, including 2 seniors, to crossover tomorrow

The Jathika Sabha claims that two SLFP stalwarts and seven other party parliamentarians will crossover to the opposition when Budget 2008 goes before a crucial vote at its third reading in the House tomorrow (Dec. 14th). Opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and SLFP Mahajana Wing leader Mangala Samaraweera had talks separately with these SLFP MPs at the Parliamentary Complex today.

They have agreed to crossover and vote against the budget, a top official of the Jathika Sabha told ?Lanka Dissent.?

At the discussions, Samaraweera has promised one of the SLFP seniors the post of deputy prime minister of a future government by the Jathika Sabha.


JHU?s Ven. Nanda Thera hospitalized

JHU parliamentarian Ven. Udawatte Nanda Thera got himself admitted to Apollo Hospital in Colombo yesterday (Dec. 12th) after falling ill suddenly. The Thera will have to remain under medical care for several days, according to hospital sources.

This will make it difficult for him to cast his vote at the ballot on the third reading of Budget 2008 tomorrow.

Is there any such post as Deputy Prime minister in constitution ? I am just curious,.

We as in the people sitting in the galleries enjoying the show put on by the barbarians pretending they are running a democratic 'country'. George Orwell's Animal Farm come to life almost, half lions playing at being human how quaint :)

And no not part of the circus, don't have a fat MP's perks, too bad :)
