JRJ became PM of Slanka at a time it had been ruined to the core by previous SLFP government and leftist parties. JRJ had to undo a lot of bad policies. When he he was at it, SLFP/JVP and LTTE did everythig possible for him not to succeed. Singapore was not build over night. It took 30-40 years. If JRJ had the leadership that long and without SLFP in the opposition and minus LTTe/JVP, today Slanka would be another Singapore.
Ranil is loosing elections because he is not making any false promises. He is keen to cut the public sector whereas public servants will do anything to keep their jobs and get paid. SLFP/JVP are misinterpriting fact for political mileage. If Ranil can tell as much lies as others and win by hook or by crook, he can and will win. He is clean and wants to win clean without giving false hopes to the people. People fall for promises like bread at R3 and vote. |

He has instruct Colombo to leave Hakeem along.
some expect JVP to decide as they vote last.

Well, not so difficult. Cos MR is bringing money from Japan now. So there should be a way to use use those.
Well, Now the War is going on. So poor people have to eat 'Bajiri' (as SLs did during 2nd world war) and 'Grass' (as Vietnaminas did during Vietnam war) till the war ends (whenever). But since Mahinda have Japanese Yen now, still he can play his political game.
What a government.

Before that, in 1958, he earned the distinction of sabotaging the Banda-Chelva pact. Had he had the interest of the country at heart, he wouldn't have done what he did and he wouldn't have had to face the LTTE today. Why did he allow July 1983? Could he not have nipped it in the bud if he could not prevent it altogether?
This visionary has also made significant contribution to the emergence of the LTTE. So, it cannot be quoted in defence of his failure
Another brilliant job he did is the present Constitution which has been abused by all the Presidents to further their own ends.
Just imagine what SL would be today if not for his three major achievements - sabotaging the Banda-Chelva Pact, the Constitution and July '83.

Well, the buds were bloomed in Banda's time as I know. Remember the working language changing stuff??If Banda did it cleverly, today no any problem. Banda only thought about votes, Sinhala votes.
And an additional thing, From Banda to CBK the leadership of SLFP was with Bandaranaika family. Finally CBK made the problem worse and see now another family has emerged and have made everything worse.

If you go back to my post in page 2 (the last post in the page), you will note that I have blamed the country's leadership for the pathetic plight of the country today.
In my last post the discussion was about JR and his role in taking the country on its downward slide. I don't think that we can absolve any leader we have had so far. They are all simply rotten with the future too looking bleak |

If Ranil wants to come into power he HAS to use punnakku, hoodwink the majority voting idiots like what the others do and come to power and THEN show what he is capable of and turn SL into another Singapore or whatever.
Trying to use the techniques of 'gentleman politics' amidst the present Sri Lankan politicial scenario will not work. To clean up the sorry mess the country is in and to establish a clean politicial culture where 'gentleman politics' is once again restored, Ranil has to come into power using the techniques prevalent at the moment. If Ranil is unable to secure power, talking of his abilities does not take anyone anywhere.
I too agree that Ranil is not a rogue a thug a fraud or a cheat BUT he is purely and simply INCAPABLE politically to give leadership to a country.
Ranil does not have the political metal seen in JRJ, Lalith A, Gamini D, MR or CBK. Simply listening to Ranil talk puts any one off!

OK Ranil is a saint. But are the people around him also like him? Like Karu & Moragoda who crossed over to cover up their deeds exposed by the COPE report? Do the stalwarts with him like SB and Ravi have clean hands?
Ranil running a clean administration with the jerks around him is wishful thinking. |

Ranil maybe having a good political mind but he does not know how to use it.Like some of you who said the UNP and the SLFP ruined the country, this is true! They did it to
get politically powerful with it's supporters.They didn't
think of the country but it's majority and that includes religion.When Late JR came into power he tried to clean up
a messed up country but with no support from his own party.This the political situation of Sri lanka.Everyone
is trying to cut the others throat to be at the top.No one
wants to help it's leader.This is always the case in Sri Lanka.So how can one solve this ethnic problem?No one is
thinking of the other person but him/herself! |
