There are few contributing factors to global warming. Green house gases such as methane, SF6(several times powerful than CO2). Gasses like carbon dioxide can capture UV radiation and emit infrared radiation which is responsible for heating things up. Another indirect contributors are gases like CFC which can react with ozone and remove protective ozone layer making upper atmosphere transparent to UV radiation. UV radiation can affect environment in several ways other than just warming. Though deforestration is not a direct cause for global warming, it reduces the ability to remove CO2 from atmosphere.
consequences of global warming: When temperature goes up few things can happen. Ice glaciers in north and South poles may melt and rise the sea level. Further, it will expand the volume of water, this may be the biggest impact on rising sea level.
Precautions: Small countries like Sri Lanka must consider these consequences before investing on projects along the coastal belt.
what's going on: The largest sources of carbon dioxide are automobiles and coal power plants. Lot of research is going on to capture carbon dioxide and turn into solid carbon, called 'carbon scrubbing' . However some developing countries like china have little or no regard on environmental impact. Their number of coal power plants are mushrooming daily.
