Why did he unilaterally declare a cease fire in December 2000 when he was doing quite well on the battle field and his eastern commander was eagerly awaiting orders to march on Trincomalee? -8232 -8232
Is it 2000 or 2001 ?
If it was 2001, he was scared of getting his ass kicked by the post 9/11 and the DPU's were right in front of his door step....... |

you seem to be VERY ignorant sometimes. let me explain in case you dont REMEMBER this. you can do your own research an Confirm it.
In Dec 00 (elephant pass had FALLEN) LTTE declared a UNIlateral CF. THATS dec 2000 (two thousand in case you think it was a TYPO) the govt refused to reciprocate the CF. LTTE extended it every month and lost a couple of hundred cadres in the process.
It announced in apr 01 that it was ending the CF. the very next day (Apr 14 i think) the SLA launched Op aghi gheela and was severely beaten back after a couple of weeks of fighting.
so what do the GOSL do. well as usual the rent-a-pilot outfir took to the skies and started their bombing.
LTTE warned them in June 2001 to stop air attacks. LTTE launched KIA which brought the govt to a standstill.
the economy was in tatters. infact it GREw by a whopping NEGATIVE 1% . RW came to power and again in DEC 01 LTTE announced another CF. this time around the govt RESPONDED.
but so that the sinhala masses who believe all nonsense and dont want to investigate anything on their own the sinhala GOVT pushed the story YOU quoted above.

i dont know whether anyone has seen this. its very detailed and through. i read this as it came online so it was a bit easy.
T saba was a senior editor for daily Noise and had unprecedented access into the gosl. so he brings a good perspective.

one of the memorable quotes in there somewhere is from lalith athulathmudali. lalith had told saba that both he and VP were born on the same day and going fwd ONLY one of us would shape the destiny of the island. he was the security minister at that time. the reat is history. |

Maitreya,
I agree he is a military genius. But history will only be kind to him if he has used his talents to the betterment of his people. I don't see the statesmanship or political maturity of a Mao or Ho Chi Minh in him. Therefore unless something dramatically changes, history won't be kind to VP. I know I am not going to be popular for saying this but I have always called a spade a spade and will continue to do so.

it is hard for me to comment since it is still ongoing thing, Mao and Ho Chi Minh are past leaders and lot of information available about them. Only the Time will tell.

Any way the photo of Velu, antin Bala, Adel and a few others underneath the Coconut sapling had KAruna ad the end of the line up.
It seem though he was laughing, he was just pretending and he was not really happy.
I saw that photo in Lanka guardian. Later they removed it.
Lanka guardian had a poem even written by a councilor in Jaffna who explained the feelings of a04 year girl who war raped by her father/step father. I posed it. It is removed. The poem is removed from the Lanka guardian too. |
