Mangala congratulates Basil on leading Govt. to victory

Former SLFP heavyweight Mangala Samaraweera, MP, shortly after Monday`s voting on the second reading of the Budget congratulated Basil Rajapaksa on spearheading the ruling coalition`s victory.
Rajapaksa had been visibly surprised when Samaraweera walked up to him and shook hands, saying he hadn`t had time to meet him since he took oaths as a National List MP. The leader of the Mahajana faction had acknowledged that the victory by a 16-vote majority was due to Rajapaksa.
UNP`s Colombo District leader Ravi Karunanayake who had been there had promptly brought it to the notice of UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe who joined them at that moment. Wickremesinghe is believed to have said something to the effect that the government (read as Rajapaksas) had won this time.
Samaraweera and Sripathy Sooriyaarachchi voted against the Budget. Political sources said that Basil Rajapaksa played a pivotal role in thwarting the much publicised attempts to engineer a mass crossover of ruling coalition members ahead of the budget vote.
Earlier Samaraweera threatened to launch street protests against the JVP if it voted with the government. But the Opposition plan jointly hatched by the UNP leadership and Mahajana Faction depended on their ability to engineer a mass crossover of ruling party MPs.
Speaking to the press subsequently, Basil Rajapaksa expressed the belief that the government could bring the entire country under State control soon. This we could be done with the help of the security forces, a smiling MP said, signalling that ongoing efforts to militarily weaken the LTTE would continue.

Damned,
Basil a Novice to Parliament politics,Conquered experienced Mangala.
His ability to bring things under control, hurt Opposition at large.
when CBK's government in this nunber trouble in the Parliment, Mangala blackmailed Hakeem by bringing his former mistress Kumari Cooray to the Parliment and exposing the story to the media.
After getting required numbers, Mangala dropped Kumari Coorya and she commited suicide at the gate of Hakeem's house!
Perhaps thats why Hakeem was not so interested in supporting making Mangala the vice premier this time!

MR came to power through the back door on the back of LTTE. He is ruling with the help of crooks. He is staying in power through all kinds of schemes. Slanka and Slankans are paying a heavy price. Now the Central bank has started selling gold reservers, which were collected by UNP governments. MR and SLFP is selling the country. Ministers are making money. COPE report has gone into the dust bin. Anyone with an aounce of shame cannot support this government of ali baba and 100 thives.

| New leader of TMVP, Pillaiyan was congratulated by the other brother Gotabhaya for keeping 3 TNA MPs away from voting against the budget. Pillaiyan may not know that another diplomatic passport is faked to smuggle him to the UK. |

Raigamakolla,
UNP collected gold? In your dreams? Don't spread rumors - don't be like p.Ranil and p.Mangala...
CB denies gold sale refers fake letter to CID
Recently, there have been allegations that the Central Bank has been selling large quantities of gold from its reserves over the past few months.
Central Bank said these stories are apparently based on a copy of a fake letter dated 14th July 2007 purported to have been issued under the signature of the ?Secretary to the Finance Minister? which refers to a sale of ?7000 kg of 24 k gold bullion?.
?This fake letter has already been referred to the Criminal Investigations Department by the Ministry of Finance & Planning for further action. It appears that certain interested parties are making use of this fake letter to spread a canard that the country?s gold reserves are being sold in order to enable the Government to meet its expenses. The public is hereby notified that such allegations are blatantly false,? the Bank added.
