Dewey,
I think JVP waited until the govt got majority vote. They were on the fence wanting to uphold their promise while not wanting to bring the govt down. This is called politics. JVP can now say that they voted against a budget that brings more hardship to common folks while not being blamed for bringing the govt down
That is exactly what my opinion too. In the coming days pressure on the government will be more. Specially if it does not take action to reduce COL by reducing number of ministries and cutting down other unwanted government expenditure. With this decision JVP has sent a clear message to the president to stop entertaining politicians (UNP). |

Now what ??? There still is a 3rd reading if the budget, Anyway, I assume it will be passed w/out much problems.
However, I hope that the gov will not take things for granted & do something seriously to bring the cost of living down. War or not, I am sure the Gov cant be giving that excuse forever & increasing prices. |

I think your interpretation is closer to what happend. It seems JVP did this to cover its face. There must have a sort of agreement between MR and JVP.
Anyway, its good for the country MR won this. |
