Sri Lanka government wins the crucial budget vote
Monday, 19 November 2007 - 7:01 PM SL Time

Sri Lanka government the crucial budget vote today with a majority of 16 votes. Government received 118 votes for the budget and 102 against and two abstaining.

Marxist People`s Liberation Front (JVP) which was the decisive factor voted against the budget. Political circles believed they would vote for the government.

Former JVP MP Nandana Gunatillake, Wijedasa Rajapakse and two TNA members were abstained from voting.

Opposition United National Party (UNP) and Tamil National Alliance (TNA) have voted against the budget while all parties in the government coalition have voted in support of the budget.

Following the Govt intervention, three TNA MPs from the East were threatened by Pillayan not to vote against the budget. They abstained from voting to save the lives of theirs and their relatives.

NICE ARTICLE IN SUNDAY TIMES

WITH UNEXPECTED resisstance from ltte and battle field setbacks gosl targetted tamil selvam a soft target since his office and residence was known to every one .

3 sla sf killed in omanthai west area today continous
clashes in the area of navatkulam/mullikulam and vepankulam

the budget is of no concern to tamils but we did see sinhal monkey play for the whole of last week
well
entertained.

Yes, Budget is passed. Peelamist's Ranil dream ended. No different atleast for another year. VP is getting ready for an eternal sleep in a Bunker.
