BREAKING NEWS...
The Commissioner of Inland Revenue had fined Wijedasa Rajapakshe Rs. 60,000 and Rajapakshe's name appeared on page 48 of the Inland Revenue Commission's report for 1999 among the 20 persons who had been fined over Rs. 60,000/-.
Dr. Rajitha Senaratne queried whether a person who had defrauded the Inland Revenue Dept. could function as the Chairman Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) and evidently Rajapakshe who had a grudge against the Commissioner General of Inland Revenue was pressing for action against the latter. Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said he was tabling the Inland Revenue Report 1999 for inclusion in the Hansard.
The Minister observed that the MP was pursuing a political agenda as Chairman of COPE adding that he (Wijedasa Rajapakshe) was involved in a political conspiracy at the bidding of former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga.
He also accused the MP of going against convention by divulging contents of a report of a Parliamentary Committee, after he became COPE Chairman.
?Although, the MP is pointing an accusing finger against two Ministers, the full responsibility should be taken by the Economic Reforms Committee chaired by Ranil Wickremesinghe during the latter?s Premiership. This was even accepted by Ranil Wickremesinghe himself in Parliament?.

Pro-tiger billionaire offers Rs.50 million for each government Parliamentarian crossing over
Members who cross over from the government to the opposition would get Rs.5 to 10 million plus foreign tours while a member crossing over from the opposition to the government would get a ministerial portfolio say these sources.
Meanwhile, government media had reported that a pro-tiger billionaire, sympathetic to tiger organization, has holed out in a five star hotel in Colombo and has launched an operation to bait members from the government to the opposition as a part of a conspiracy to topple the government.

When Mr. Wijedasa Rajapakshe was in the U.S. last year, he had tried to strike a deal to send Sri Lankans as security guards to Iraq through a private company. We all know how the US company Blackwaters send people to Iraq and about its dealings. Mr. Wijedasa Rajapakshe had been keen to meet the Blackwaters officials.
Just last week, investigations have discovered illegal exportation of Sri Lankans to Iraq to provide security to Iraqi officials without proper authorization or procedure. More: http://www.divaina.com/2007/11/15/news07.html

Construction and Engineering Services Minister Rajitha Senaratne said yesterday MP Wijedasa Rajapakshe could not morally remain as the Chairman of the Committee On Public Enterprises (COPE) as he has been fined for violating the Inland Revenue Act.
Addressing the Media convened by the UNP-D group at the Seth Sevana yesterday, Senaratne also queried as to how such an individual could remain as a President?s Counsel.
?He was subjected to a penalty of Rs. 60,000. The Administrative Report of the Inland Revenue Director General for 1999 confirms this.?
Senaratne said Rajapakshe?s name was among the 66 names cited in the report. Rajapakshe was among 20 others who were subjected to a penalty of Rs. 60,000 and over.
The Minister observed that the MP was pursuing a political agenda as Chairman COPE adding that he (Rajapakshe) was involved in a political conspiracy at the bidding of former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga.
He also accused the MP of going against convention by divulging
contents of a report of a Parliamentary Committee, after he became COPE Chairman.
?Although, the MP is pointing an accusing finger against two Ministers the full responsibility should be taken by the Economic Reforms Committee chaired by Ranil Wickremesinghe during the latter?s Premiership. This was even accepted by Ranil Wickremesinghe himself in Parliament?.
Besides, the entire Cabinet should be held accountable including
Kumaratunga who was the President at the time, the Minister pointed out.
The Minister also slammed sections of the media who he said were trying to compare Wijedasa Rajapakshe who entered Parliament without obtaining a single vote, with President Mahinda Rajapaksa who began his political journey in 1970 and attained his present position after braving guns and languishing behind bars. |

Why did Wijedasa Rajapakse, waited so long to make his demands ? Is Chandrika Kumaratunga trying to fish in the troubled waters ?
By Charles Perera
Even if the Government is to be defeated on the Budget, the President will still continue with an interim Government., until the next election. Therefore, one cannot understand the stampede the traitorous elements around the President are trying to create as a pre-budget show down. Some demands make one wonder why the honest Parliamentarians waited so long to make it an issue to cross the floor of the Parliament to sit with the opposition. Why now with an important budget, which is important for the security of the country and the people, presented to the Parliament, Mr. Wijedasa Rajapakse decides to quit the Government ?
It is strange that with the terrorists being cornered by the SLSF, and Prabhakaran's days are almost being numbered, the International Community and all Foreign Organisations are all out to give a life line to the terrorists, Mr Wijedasa Rajapakse has found it necessary to quit the government demanding the dismissal of 10 Ministers and top bureaucrats , and asking the number of Cabinet of Ministers to be reduced to 30. There is some thing fishy in his absurd demand. He should know that such a demand cannot be met within days ! . The question again is why did he waited so long, and made it just one week before the vote on the budget ?
