UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake said the bankrupt Government had presented a bankrupt budget yesterday.
`It is nothing but showing carrots to the people,` Attanayake told The Island yesterday.
He said yesterday`s budget was mainly about taxes and the Government had shifted the burden of economy onto the shoulders of common man through taxes.
The President`s expenditure has been increased by 3,000 million rupees, but the budget has not given any concessions to people. `The common man, even henchmen of the government had been overlooked by this budget. None had been given anything by this budget,` he said.
The increment granted to the public servant is not enough even to cover his expenses on milk powder.

What is very funny is that govt employees have only got a salary hike of Rs. 375 in this budget.
They are already getting Rs. 2125 as COL allowance and MR in his budget speech said COL allowance to govt employees would be increased to Rs. 2500. Every six months COL allowance is increased by Rs. 375 and govt employees would anyway get it. To idiots this sounded like as if they are getting another Rs 2500 allowance.
This is what fools who voted MR deserve. Nothing more. In Colombo a lunch packet with fish costs Rs. 120. |

RW is the winning looser!
Assumption of 'bankrupt budget' in Ranil W's theory is may be due to the fact that his influence in Foreign Banks by not loaning any money to the Rajapakse Government. I also believe that they listened to RW and honoured his word simply because of the fear in canceling the temporary licenses of all Foreign Banks when 'dis'-donorable opposing leader comes back to power just as he 'dreams'.
The only contribution RW did over the third budget of the most popular Government is by not attending the evening's tea party at the end of the secession. Furthermore he even advised all members of UNP not to attend the same even though most of his party members were not very please at their 'Bosses' attitude. It was very thoughtful of him by not 'wasting' the Government's tea, sugar, hot-water and of-course the milk. As such the SLFP with the left over extra milk in boiling it for good luck! The en-result is all other apposition party members will bless the Rajapakse Government over 'the extra ordinary, painfully assembled Budget' other than the sinking UNP. This is a consolation to the Nation in an era when the Government is fighting a bold war against the ruthless LTTE, determining to put an end to this most notorious terrorist group in the world.
With the Blessings of the Most Sacred Triple Gem, our Lanka Matha will carry the golden banner with upright sword proudly holding gracefully by the Lion - the king of the jungle in massacring the LTTE tigers.
I cannot think how the Colombo Seven folks think. Yet I am positive that the poor and the ordinary citizens of Sri Lanka would be prepared to fore-go some rupees of their hard earned money even it is limited to low figures as a sacrifice in the name of the country in crushing down the ruthless LTTE over the path the Rajapakse Government is 'Marching Forward!' |
