Non-Cabinet Deputy Labour Minister Mervyn Silva`s son Malaka, who is on remand for allegedly pistol whipping a patron at a restaurant in Bambalapitiya, was transferred to the Welikada prison hospital last evening.
The suspect Malaka Silva was transferred from the Merchant ward of the National Hospital in a Prisons vehicle. It was reported that his father Mr. Mervyn Silva had come to the prison hospital and inquired about the facilities there.
Malaka Silva has been in the Merchant ward since September 10, the day he was remanded by the Mount Lavinia Magistrate.
Last week a fundamental rights application was filed in the Supreme Court against Malaka Silva being kept in the Merchant wards. The petitioner had prayed that Malaka be transferred to the remand prison.

RajaPASSA have a habit of scuttling investigations from within. First it was Helping Hambanthota. Now the COPE report. This is what happens when you put a family of PLUNDERINGS SWINES in charge of the country..

New appointee Basil scuttles COPE
By Kelum Bandara and Gihan de Chickera
COPE Chairman Wijedasa Rajapakse yesterday walked out of a committee meeting held in the parliamentary complex after UPFA National List MP Basil Rajapaksa allegedly attempted to interfere with the proceedings as its newest member.
COPE met yesterday to conduct inquiries into alleged financial irregularities in the Mahaweli Development Authority in the presence of officials from the Auditor General?s Department.
COPE members told the Daily Mirror yesterday that MP Rajapaksa talked to the officials of the AG?s Department in a rude manner while interfering with the day?s business and deviating from usual procedure.
The AG?s Department had notified COPE earlier that they faced difficulty in obtaining relevant documents from the Mahaweli Development Authority for inquiries. At the meeting, Mr. Basil Rajapaksa supported the Mahaweli Authority saying it had the right to withhold information.
Deputy Justice Minister Dilan Perera then tried unsuccessfully to explain to Mr.Basil Rajapaksa that his actions were a deviation from accepted COPE practice.
As a result of the unpleasant situation, Chairman Wijedasa Rakapakse walked out of the meeting, asking Mr. Perera to preside.

Even UNP MPs are not 'devoted' to Hon Ranil as our Anizam nana
Maharoof to vote against Milinda No Faith Motion
says more UNPers would follow suit:
Colombo District UNP Parliamentarian Mohammed Maharoof has threatened to vote against the Mangala-Sripathy sponsored No Confidence Motion against Minister Milinda Moragoda saying such a Motion was ill-advised and that there were other UNP MPs who would boycott the vote.
In a letter addressed to UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe Maharoof also called into question the role of Mangala Samaraweera and Sripathy Sooriyaarachi recalling their statement that it was they who were responsible for his (Wickremesinghe?s) defeat at the Presidential elections at the MOU ceremony of the National Council.

| If this is about fundamental rights of Malaka Silva, that Sudu Nona from UN may request to visit him at the jail. Apperently she has gone sour when questioned about human right violations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Poor thing. Abusive Sinhala people |
