Teach them self - employment.
Specialize university programs to limit the admission for students, create more programs that will be helpful to the student to find a job. |

Anud,
Best thing for students to do is study for the foreign market.
In Sri Lanka all most all the fields are flooded.
Very soon people pass out as doctors too find difficult to get Govt. jobs.
If not, there should be large scale destruction like World War 2.
Then there will be new constructions, developments etc. for people to have jobs and to start a new way of life. If not no solution.
This is something like playing snake and ladders. For the game to be continued things went up should come down.

AnuD,
I have once told you about the currupted education system in sri lanka. This incident now is verifying it, isnit this?
Wick,
Best thing for students to do is study for the foreign market.
Let me just make what you said secific, it should be like.
Best thing for students to do is study for the foreign market where sri lanka can earn US dollors or any equal hard currancy,
but not to study to sell imported items in Sri Lanka.
Vendors, Sales reps, are overflowing in Sri lanka now.
People just like typical lawyers, doctors, teachers, engineers, etc are not creating money.
Next generation should be creative minded and should be capable of producing something to stop the flaw of foreign goods to sri lanka which drains the USDs out.

Pera ,
Those 'unemployed' lot should think again and change their attitudes.
I'm sure you are just being sarcastic.
A young fellow entering university, absorbs what is taught to him as the elixir for the future. Thus, the ones who prepare the doses ( the staff) are the principal culprits if it does not work.
It is essential to form them (staff + undergrads!) to LEARN TO LEARN and adjust fast. Why the University can't give them a solid English language proficiency together with a national degree?
Give them a few PCs with a good interactive English learning CD.

While in the university they do protests and after becoming gradualtes still hold protests.
These people are addicted to hold protests. That is what they enjoy. If they dont inhale tear gas for more than one year they get sick.

Pera,
University degree (obtained free of charge - even in China you have to pay for your degree now) does not gurantee any job.
Those 'unemployed' lot should think again and change their attitudes.
Good point there. Obtaining a degree does not mean gurantee for a job. The difference is they have the path to obtaining a job than a non-grdauate. Our Students had this problem for a long time. I remember in the 1970s Wasantha Obeysekara made a film called 'Walmathwuuwoo' which had 5 unemployed graduate youths showing their frustration. Its natural to be frustrated having obtained a degree.
But the country has never been 100% employed in any era, let alone now. I think government should create more avenues to those who are with special skills and divert some of the astrayed graduates to correct path. Mass unemployment was the reason that JVP got stronger and this is nothing new.

I remeber watching 'Wamathuwo' at the Arts Thetere, Universty of Peradeniya in early 90's.
If I am not mistaken, Somasiri Dehipitiya, Tony, Cyril Wickramage were the actors. Very nice but sad film. Brought tears to my eyes!
Cheers

Correct! Those guys were struggling and their GFs were not granted to marry by the parents due to their inability to get a job. Sad story, but very true of our country.
Btw, where have you been? Hope everything is ok with you Pera?
