---`It`s a shame to be a Minister of this Cabinet`- Maithripala---
(LeN- 2007 Jan. 30, 7.45 pm) Assuming duties as the Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Services Development Minister Maithripala Sirisena this morning said that it is a shame to be a Minister of the existing Government.
He said the JVP is also to be blamed for the increase in the number of ministerial portfolios, because if the JVP was with the government the number of ministries would have minimized. And he also said certain portfolios have been broken down and that it is a shame to call him self a Minister of the existing Government.
Maithripala sirisena is the SLFP?s General Secretary and also used his powers to strip former president Chandrika Kumaratunga from her party Chairman post. The latest Cabinet re-shuffle cost the `Mahaweli` portfolio of his earlier held minister which was ultimately granted to president`s brother Chamal Rajapakse. The Moragahakanda project which was initiated just a couple of days before the cabinet reshuffle was also held under Sirisena?s guidance and sources close to him say that the SLFP General Secretary is greatly upset about striping off his `Mahaweli` portfolio.

Our 1st job is to re-appoint our people! - UNP ministers say
29th January 2007 - 22:15 S.L.T)
Re-appointing of UNP sympathizers who were discontinued from their positions when UPFA came to power is their first concern say those Parliamentarians who joined the government from the UNP.
Celebrations were held in residences of new ministers including Karu Jayasuriya and Rajithe Senaratne immediately after the sworn in ceremony. The supporters who thronged to these receptions were told by the new ministers to wait until they assume duties to re-appoint those who lost their positions after the General Election.
As soon as the government changed, the ministers of UPFA took measures to remove UNP supporters from their positions and appoint their sympathizers. As such a change in institutional heads is in the offing say sources. Edited By - Rapaport - 30 Jan 2007 19:31:30 GMT |

Vultures that jump from one party to another shouldn?t be allowed to decide the political path of the country! ? JVP
29th January 2007 - 04:00 S.L.T)
Political vultures that change colour, jump from one party to another only for their personal gains and thereby destabilize the country should be blotted out of existence. These vultures should not be allowed to decide which direction the politics of the country should move states a communiqué issued by the JVP on the cross over of Parliamentarians of the UNP.
Also, politics of those who take in such vultures, alleging that it was necessary for a strong government, should be decisively beaten. These bankrupt political agendas don?t contribute to build a ?new Sri Lanka ? states the communiqué issued by the Political Bureau of he JVP.
The time has come for the progressive, democratic, anti-separatist, anti-terrorist and anti-communalist masses to rally to defeat the vile attempts of obliterating before the political vultures the clear mandate given by the patriotic people at the Presidential Election of 2005. It states that the time has come for the patriotic people and forces to organize around the JVP to avoid the country being taken towards re-colonization but on a path that is favourable to the country and the people. This is an absolute crap from a man whom I had kept in high esteem. You don't sell your policy and principles for a mere ministerial portfolio.
OR
Did he join under a threat about an exposure??? |
