Interpol issues warrant on Sea Tiger leader Soosai
Ranil Wijayapala
COLOMBO : The Interpol Headquarters in France has issued a Worldwide Arrest Warrant on LTTE Sea Tiger leader Thillayampalam Sivanesan better known as Soosai identifying him as a fugitive wanted for prosecution consequent to the facts forwarded by the CID to Court.
The arrest warrant has come in the backdrop of revelations made by Sea Tiger cadres to the CID in the aftermath of the LTTE?s failed attempt to attack Naval vessels and civilian targets in June last year.
The Sea Tiger cadres who were arrested on June 17, 2006 in Pamunugama and Kalpitiya had revealed to the CID that the foiled attempt was made on the instruction of Soosai.
They have revealed to the CID that they have conducted several mock operations in the seas off Mullaitivu on the instructions of Soosai who had ordered the attack on the Naval vessels and civilian targets in June 2006.
According to CID DIG Asoka Wijetilleka, consequent to these revelations the CID reported facts to Court and the court issued an Arrest Warrant on ?Soosai?. The Interpol Headquarters has issued this worldwide arrest warrant upon a request made by Interpol Colombo to Interpol Headquarters.
Thillayampalam Sivanesan alias Sera Osca alias Makkal Thilakam born on October 16, 1963 in Velvetithurai, Jaffna is holding Sri Lankan passport No.1365685 issued on October 18, 2004 and the national identity card no 632904037 V.
According to CID sources on a request made by them in 2001 similar arrest warrants were issued on LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran and Intelligence Chief Shanmuganathan Sivashankar alias Pottu Amman and the Head of procurement in LTTE Kumaran Pathmanathan.
These worldwide arrest warrants are still in operation and were issued by the Interpol headquarters for their complicity in the Central Bank explosion on January 31, 1996.
Recently too the third in line of the LTTE overseas procurement Thavarajah Partheepan was arrested by Indonesian authorities and upon a request made by the FBI of the US State Department he was handed over to FBI authorities with the concurrence of CID.
He was arrested as his complicity was revealed in a series of attempts made in the USA by him to procure arms and ammunition to the LTTE.
He is being currently investigated and tried before a US Court in relation to these offences |

This is not the first time around that GOSL has made a fuss that there is oil. Sirima said this too. GOSL knows that this is the only way it can keep the west interested in a failed state.
I am excited that we can steal your Oil.
Are you talking about 'Thala Thel'. That is the only oil your going to get.
Look for stocks in a co that can get the pungent smell out of 'Thala Thel' then you can use as a lubricant. The mushrooming industry in SL can use a lot of lubricant. I dont have to tell you that! Edited By - wk4pce - 31 Jan 2007 07:03:53 GMT |

International donors have used a 4.5-billion-dollar aid pledge to try to push Sri Lanka into cutting a political deal with Tamil separatists, diplomats said here at the end of a key meeting.
Foreign donors emerged determined to press for peace after two days of closed-door talks dominated by the island's deepening conflict.
'Our stand has not changed,' said the World Bank's vice president for South Asia, Praful Patel. 'Sri Lanka must push for a dialogue (with the Tamil Tigers) to settle the conflict.'
'There is no choice for Sri Lanka but to pursue peace. It's a tough path. The economy can't continue to bear the cost of the war,' Patel added.
Japan, Sri Lanka's biggest single donor, said a military solution to Sri Lanka's bitter ethnic conflict was not possible and called on the government and Tamil Tigers to resume talks.
'We are of the view that there cannot be a military solution to the conflict, and hope the peace process will resume soon,' said Reiichiro Takahashi, deputy director of Japan's foreign ministry.
But while delegates said the promise of aid would be used to encourage the government to go for peace, Colombo insisted there were no strings attached.
