| | Vista`s legal fine print raises red flags- anyone buying it!!! Tuesday, 30 January 2007 - 8:53 PM SL Time | | | The net effect of these concerns may constitute the real Vista
revolution as they point to an unprecedented loss of consumer control
over their own personal computers. In the name of shielding consumers
from computer viruses and protecting copyright owners from potential
infringement, Vista seemingly wrestles control of the `user experience`
from the user.
Vista`s legal fine print includes extensive provisions granting
Microsoft the right to regularly check the legitimacy of the software
and holds the prospect of deleting certain programs without the user`s
knowledge. During the installation process, users `activate` Vista by
associating it with a particular computer or device and transmitting
certain hardware information directly to Microsoft.
Even after installation, the legal agreement grants Microsoft the right to revalidate the software or to require users to reactivate it should they make changes to their computer components. In addition, it sets significant limits on the ability to copy or transfer the software, prohibiting anything more than a single backup copy and setting strict limits on transferring the software to different devices or users.
Vista also incorporates Windows Defender, an anti-virus program that
actively scans computers for `spyware, adware, and other potentially
unwanted software.` The agreement does not define any of these terms,
leaving it to Microsoft to determine what constitutes unwanted
software.
Once operational, the agreement warns that Windows Defender will, by
default, automatically remove software rated `high` or `severe,` even
though that may result in other software ceasing to work or mistakenly
result in the removal of software that is not unwanted.
For greater certainty, the terms and conditions remove any doubt about
who is in control by providing that `this agreement only gives you some rights to use the software. Microsoft reserves all other rights.` For those users frustrated by the software`s limitations, Microsoft
cautions that `you may not work around any technical limitations in the software.` |

Not me ! Never for Micro$oft !
I adopted Linux, and it suits fine for my application, and this for a cheaper prize (0 $)!!
The little penguin is the future, don't wait tomorrow do it now !
The migration is a bit difficult if you are bad in computer, but it will bring a lot in your money purse !
And there are more diversity and flexibility in Linux than Micro$oft..
There exist a lot of free Linux distribution, i personally use Fedora Core 6 !
And i can do everything like XP..
MP3 listening, WMV (a windows video format) files watching, :-)))
I too have the OpenOffice the equivalent of the dollar Office suite of Micro$oft.. :-))))
Let's move now !! Don't wait ! You will be happier ! |

What is the web site ?
No web site, we are MS partners, so we get all software for free, but certain number of licenses, (like 10 Vista Ultimates for example). |

I am also with Linux and have an windows emulation (XP) for certain tasks. i can use openoffice but am a bit lazy!!
ofcourse at home its XP and have no plans in the near future to upgrade. there is probably a lot of stuff in XP that i dont know of.
Lets all hope (well except the few who try it out) that the hackers go to work on Vista and leave XP alone so the few of us who use it will have less hazzle to deal with issues!
i use a lot of free stuff (adaware, AVG, ZA) and wonder how VISTA would view this! i dont want to be a guinea pig ! |

Revy , Great picture ! Nice one :-))
If Bill Gates is the world richest man it is not a hazard.
90% of sold computers have Win pre-installed..
But the fight will be hard for $oft.. I'm asking when $oft will crash..

Yes i have wine.. I use it for applications that have not be developed for Linux.
Linux have nothing complicate..
You just have to learn to write few commands, there is nothing more difficult..
TC or other, is it possible to buy a XP in Tamil fully ?? No..
But you can have Linux and OpenOffice in Tamil.. (Btw Tamil language was the first Indian language which was fully available on Linux)..
French Govt authorities & other Institutions are switching on to Linux system from Windows from january 2007!
The Kerala State will move at 100% on Linux, Tamil Nadu too took this decision.. Great move :-))
