I don't know what is funny about the picture!
Because, the old lady is being a Indian Tamil?
Or, Because she is black, old, lost her teeth due to ages?
Or, Because she is poor and helpless?
Or, Because she is an innocent victim?
Most of the Tamil and Sinhalese look like this or otherwise if they mixed with Europeans or North Indian descendants!
Probably, you have fairer skin because your ancestors were mixed with others - for money or anything else to survive! |

My personal opinion is that you do not have to be too harsh.
I do not agree with Ruwani (in fact yesterday she wanted me to be 6 feet under the ground) but I always enjoy reading her posts.
I can understand that you receive angry letters from the viewers. But again, if these people do not like the material in any member space they can always skip it, because unlike the main page, nobody comes to member spaces to read news.
The hit count of Ruwani's member space itself shows how popular she is.
I do not know what policies sites like You Tube have on issues like racism (where you cannot easily draw lines) Perhaps you can follow the same policies.
Just an idea, as I know you are open to suggestions...

Another suggestion. (I post it here as this discussion was originated here and also I guess you might have a look at this page)
Sometime back you said you intend to introduce a system where members can rate other members. This is something similar.
Why not have a voting system? Each member gets two votes per week or per day. One +1 (plus one) and other -1 (minus one). +1 is for the member he or she likes most and -1 for the member he or she does not like. For example, if member A gets 6 plus votes and 6 minus votes his popularity rating is zero. (The minus one is a control)
The popularity rating of a member can be displayed under his or her handle.
Well this is the basic idea. There may be changes due to technical limitations etc. Can we give a try so everybody knows where one stands?
I think this is a good way to control people saying bad things. Nobody want to be low in their popularity ratings and I guess people will behave themselves if we have something like this.

Firstly I do not see anything funny in this picture.
She's happy to pose for the photograph, hence those who took it seem to take the Micky out of her.
You would have been one big bully at school,especially with those who are of other races.

I received this picture through email last week. I thought it was beautful, the person as well as the scenery. It goes along well with Mahabala's sentiments too.
