Archilis,
It may be true. But not fully. If you take the situation during the Wijethunga period and now you can see the difference. Where is Karuna now? What happened to LTTW in Europe? Did v have these massive weapons (Multi barrels and etc)? So the time make the chnages... Lets say those days LTTW is powerful and SLA is weak and now SLA is strong and LTTW is weak.

Achilles, there is a certain amount of truth to what Apcha is saying. The past governments made some colossal blunders, especially during the CBK time. But that was pre-9/11. A time when terrorism was a distant problem, especially to the western media. Now the tide has turned. What was once a romantic ideal, 'the freedom struggle' is now a terrorist movement in anyones' eyes. So the GOSL's timing now, especially with a competent leader is right. This is the only way to eradicate the terrorist menace and give back the freedom and peace the people of the N and E deserve.

Now two myths propagated by the LTTE has come crashing down, shattering..

1. SLA cannot defeat the LTTE millitarily

2. Karuna split was nothing but a small internal problem

And yet the BBC is yet to report this grand news!!

Now the world knows best!!

Astro and Moby you are right but what is the guarantee you have that our future political leader wont do the same mistake which chndrika did? am sure Ltte was never able to control East before but our leaders gave them east to rule. Premedasa asked to surrendered 600 policemen is the another instance to remember you

Moby, Astro
I think MR is doing good job! People should let him work. MR is someone (not like CBK) who actually knows what he is doing.

Tigress, for the LTTE, the SLA has become a very cautious and very alert enemy. So we will not be as arrogant as some of you people to gloat over a minor battlefield advantage. Ask this question when VP is dead and is being brought down to the nearest morgue for identification and cremation.

The foursome in MR Sarath Fonseka, Gotabhaya, Keheliya are a tight-fit mactch SL was craving to have for a long period of time along with a sound foreign ministry...

I guess all pieces are in place now for a political and military assault on the LTTE.

May they be safe for a long time!
