Campaign to demand abrogation of CFA

18th January 2007 - 00:05 S.L.T

Federation of National Organizations (FNO) which consists of 26 trade unions and 12 students? unions has decided to launch a massive protest campaign under the theme ?Revoke CFA to genuinely defeat tiger terrorism! Remove Norway from pseudo peace role! and

Reject fictitious solutions of devolution of power!

The decision has been taken by FNO after a discussion held with trade unions and students? unions yesterday in Colombo

In the discussion held under the chairmanship of Dr. Gunadasa Amaraskera, convener of FNO, it was stated that on 22nd February CFA would be five years old and if it exists beyond that date the unitary state and territorial integrity of the country would be jeopardized. Dr. Amarasekera said existence of CFA for five years would aid the tiger terrorists? attempt to establish a separate state. He also emphasized that the Government should be pressurized to reject the set of solutions put forward by Minister Tissa Vitharana to the APRC.

Mahinda Rajapaksha won presidency with the support of this type of jokers. Now he should listen to them.

Velu is responsible for the most part, then southern policies, 83 riots and decades of racist tone of both cultures.

Dewey,

VP didnt start it. it was started even before VP was born! Until VP came along the previous tamil politicians were cheated and couldnt do anything about it. VP is speaking the language the GOSL speaks!

Dewey,

Not even for a minute I doubt what you have said; your perception of as to how this conflict should be handled is feasible bar defeating the LTTE.

I like to make two points:

1. I am very sure that the Tamil Nationalism cannot be defeated militarily; the LTTE is well established with funding sources from various angles; they have immense battlefield experience knowing when to withdraw and how to attack, and firmly believe that there are foreign nations aiding and abetting. But they can be temporarily weakened that is for sure.

2. The majority of the Tamils believe that no Sinhala leader will give anything meaningful to them. They believe, if the LTTE were to be beaten, the Sinhala polity will go back to square one, if not already there. The Tamils do not see any tangible signs/signals to trust the GOSL. It is all about them and us. You talked about a Federal Structure; where is it? What is stopping the Sinhalese to put that on the table?

TCK, I did read your message; I can only try.

further to what ariyalai_Sb has written the govt has the 2/3 majority or close to it now to push for a fed structure and to change the constitution. they dont need the LTTE's permission.

THEY WILL NOT DO IT! simply prolong the war fro another decade or two and hopefully win be default!!

I don't think so. How many Tamils have been killed by singhalese so far. more than 80,000. but how many singhalese civilians died so far, less than 2000. If vp want to give same treatment he can do it without losing his carders. do you think it is difficult to them to do that? vp is sacrificing Tamil boys and girls in south to deal with selective targets and make sure no civilians coughtup in the middle. If VP wants to kill singhala civilians as the state do to tamils, they can do it more easily without losing their carders.
