Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo, celebrates its 90th anniversary today with a series of programmes to mark the event.
Among the main events are religious rites to be held at the school on today (16) with an alms giving for Buddhist Clergy and special sermons organized by the school.
The school was founded by Mrs. Jeromius Dias in 1917 and the religious events on the anniversary are intended to invoke merit on the founder and all others, including past principals, teachers, students and well wishers, who helped to make it one of the leading schools of the country.
The religious events are also to invoke merit on the Armed Forces, President and the people of the country, a spokesperson of the school said.

| It is important as it gave opportunity for Singhalese Buddhists girls to have Western type of Education deprived to Singhalese Buddhists at that time. |

| Still remember the vishaka school bus went passing us everyday, but it was not kind enough to let us use it though it had enough room to let outsider to travel. |
