Answer for both problems are infinity. However, Student thought in fist case that infinity as lying 8 because limit x--- 8
Then she thought when limit x ---5, the answer must be lying 5.
So, student remember the picture but not the meaning of mathematic equation.
I know it is little difficult. Calculus is not the favorite subject of many people. I will give more simple problems next week. |

Mahabala,
While appreciating the techer's predicament, I should also say that it does not reflect well on the teacher too.
More time should be spent to make sure that they understand the concept of 'infinity' through graphs before moving to work on problems.
Hope you were not the teacher!
