Government to accept crossovers from any political party
Friday, 12 January 2007 - 10:53 AM SL Time

As speculation about the number of UNP`ers wanting to cross over to government ranks increases, the Cabinet of ministers has decided that they should be accepted.

Government spokesman and Media Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, addressing yesterday`s Cabinet press briefing in Colombo, said that members of any political party, including the UNP were free to join the government.

`The issue of crossovers was discussed by the Cabinet on Wednesday and it was decided that any member of a political party who wishes to join the government should be welcomed.`

Asked about what would happen to the SLFP-UNP MoU in the event the government accepts anymore UNP`ers, Yapa said that it would have no effect, since the MoU was meant to resolve identified national issues on a priority basis.

`The MoU does not deal with crossovers, so the question of it affecting the objectives of the agreement with the UNP does not arise.`

Yapa said that the position in government of any parliamentarian, who decides to crossover, would be decided by President Mahinda Rajapakse.

Meanwhile, a senior UNP`er when asked about the speculation regarding desertions, said `We will have to wait and see how many of the so called reformists will actually be accepted.`

He said that the UNP does not welcome any of its members leaving, nor can it prevent them from seeking greener pastures.

`It is obvious that those clamouring to join the government want to be in the limelight and

also enjoy the privileges and perks of office. To say that they are leaving on a matter of principle or to serve the people is nothing but rubbish. The UNP is a party with principles and does not change them merely to capture power.`

He said that desertions could also be looked at as a blessing in disguise, since it would give the leadership an opportunity to reorganise the party and face future elections as a strong and united force.

But the govt should make it a point to get rid of the corrupt politicians who became part of the govt just because they wanted to cover up their corruptions and also not to take any more corrupt politicians.

LEt them make part of the opposition.

Puli,

dayasiri jayasekara is the obedient follower of RW. First he was on the SLFP and once he wanted to rise up in the ranks he tried and failed, he joined the UNP and serves his new master.

And you want us to believe his imaginary story about the bus bombs? why should anybody believe him? He lies like RW does. Remember? RW once said the SLA can't whack the LTTE for good. And in his presidental campaign, he vowed to reduce the SLA into a merely a police force with no manpower or weaponry!

And see if dayasiri jayasekara has any proof to his claim. I bet you anything he does not have. He just want to make his presence felt in the parliament to please his master RW and get his story published in the Hanzard.

I think, every reformer is allowed to join. The problem will be that everyone who joined will need a minister post, a luxury Jeep, house in Colombo and other perks.

I think, after LTTE, they are the worst kind in Sri Lanka.

Dayasiri Jayasekera was once G.L.'s boy .... Then he was elected to the parliament, and now he is Ranil's boy.
My cousin knows the bugger, and unfortunately my cousin is ( may be was) also a boot licker of G.L.
These days Ranil's 'Rathu Thol Balakaya' is working hard to grab prominent posts of UNP after the senior MP's departure.
There is a rumor that Ranil is trying to bring his nephew for a higher rank of UNP so that the leadership doesn't go out from the family. Poor Anizam.....
However, in my opinion all the politicians are opportunistic, all of who cross over will expect either minister posts or to scrap their corruption charges.
I have no faith in any of the politicians in this world.

There was a famous guy here is USA, and he could lie in front of the country even without blinking.
He said,

'I DID NOT HAVE A SEXUAL RELATIONSHIP WITH THAT WOMAN'

And later we found out he had left a major part of his future generation on her dress.

That's how the politicians are...... So pathetic.

JVP trying to push the Govt. to terror period of ?88/?89: Dilan

By Kelum Bandara and Yohan Perera

Deputy Minister Dilan Perera slammed the JVP in Parliament yesterday stating that the latter was trying to push the country again towards a terror period as in 1988/ 1989.

Speaking during the adjournment debate on the attack on CTB workers, Mr. Perera said both the JVP and the SLFP were instrumental in electing President Mahinda Rajapaksa to office, but the former had no right to push the government to the wall for winning their rights.

He said it was they who killed the leaders of the working class such as T.B. Wijesuriya, George Ratnayake.

?They killed these leaders as Prabhakaran killed Neelan Tiruchelvam,? he said. He said workers? rights should be ensured while giving them required benefits.

Referring to JVP MP Piyasiri Wijenayake who said JVP trade union members were committed to reconstruct the tsunami- affected southern railway lines, he said they should appreciate it.

He said they should also not forget the fact that they destroyed buses during the terror period.?They are still attempting to take the country back to that period,? he said. He said, ?Wives of such persons do shopping in America. There is a story about ?Durakatana Ramanaya?. The person concerned is using a cellular phone worth Rs. 150,000. If Dilan Perera uses such a phone, it is wrong?.
