Defence affairs spokesman, Minister Keheliya Rambukwella says government has no intention to launch an offensive to capture areas under LTTE.
He said the clashes are merely `retaliatory` in reaction to Tiger attacks.
Recently, the Army commander Lt.General Sarath Fonseka, had openly stated the intentions of the security forces to drive the Tamil Tigers from the North and the East.
`Niyatha Jaya`
State run newspapers declared that the government had launched a new offensive named `Niayathai Jaya` to capture areas in the East which are under Tamil Tiger control.
These reports in the government media quoted the head of Police Special Task Force Nimal Lewke.
Minister Rambukwella said probably the Force commanders meant the same approach although they were using different terminology.
Explaining the lexican, the minister said, `Security forces use language in a different way. They say `operation` or `offensive` when we are actually retaliating.`
Minister Rambukwella answering to a question said, `on the other hand, government has to take measures against any attacks that threatened the national security and the safety of the innocent tamil people`.
Retaliatory attack
He said, earlier in the week, Sri Lankan forces launched a retaliatory attack on a LTTE camp in Kanchikudichchiaaru in Ampara and also seven other camps surrounding it.
`They captured a Terrorsit uniform making outfit, Motor cycles, Arms and ammunition.`, he said.
These attacks, Minister Rambukwella said, was to control LTTE artillery attacks on special task force in the area.
Minister Rambukwella said government would continue to retaliate as long as security forces are attacked by the LTTE.
The statements of the commanders and the prominance given to the statements in the state media raised speculations in local media about a shift in policy of the government.
On Thursday, the Sri Lanka army website news update expalined the situation in Amapara district.
`Janath Camp`
`The STF after giving stiff resistance to LTTE terrorists finally managed to physically capture the main JANATH camp and seven other sub camps forcing the terrorists to flee the area of KANCHKUDICHCHIARU`. it stated.
When asked if the approach of the security forces were contridictory to the government, Minister said there were no such contrdiction and both institutions are working in complete `harmony`.

This is the language that the LTTE understands.
When LTTE closed Mavill-Aru, did they listened to anybody?
Voice of innocent people, so called Monitoring Mission or International Community, LTTE didnt listen to any of them. Finally Military answered the LTTE, from the language that understood by Prabhakharan.
Army captured Mavil-Aru & re-opened it.
This time LTTE began to fire artilleries to villages, and kidnapped innocent children. So STF had to answer by the language that terrorists can understand.
Its time to realized by Prbhakaran that LTTE cant overpower GoSL in battle field, and should try to understand Democratic Language. Edited By - wije86 - 11 Jan 2007 21:17:03 GMT |

Rambukwella is well known for shooting from the hip!
He shoots his mouth-off without knowing what he says. There is no shift in the Governement policy; Sarath Fonseka is hell bent on his WAR policy whatever the loss of innocent lives.
This is what happen recently:
Soon after the bomb blast in Nittambuwa on Friday night, Government spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella was on television and on one channel he said the bus caught in the blast was travelling from Kandy to Colombo while half an hour later on another channel he said it was travelling from Nittambuwa to Kandy.
All this while journalists at the scene knew and as the military spokesman said the bus was travelling from Nittambuwa to Giriulla. In the minister's case, all roads seemed to be leading to Kandy, for obvious reasons.
Simply it's a double talk between the military and the political establishment.. Edited By - Kulakottan - 11 Jan 2007 21:35:33 GMT |

The Sinhalese army and people have terrorised the Tamils for too long, their words don't mean a thing to us Tamils.
Whether Sinhalese use Kfirs & Migs or MBRL's to bombard and kill Tamils, its they who are the worst kind of terrorists, and a bunch of cowards at that as they do it miles away from their innocent Tamil victims. |

Oh..don't worry about defining terms. Leave that lexican for the future genrations to edit. In the mean time keep doing what our people are doing now.
If you have done the job properly, the future lexican shoud interpret the word Retaliate as,
Retaliation: noun/ (re·tal·i·a·tion)
The act of eleminating schizophrenics or chasing them away from their camps; Killing or massecring Animals; paying back

LightingingGG :
No. I do not agree with you. You are wrong.Tamil people have come to rely on the Sri Lanka forces and they have been treated and looked after verywell at every given opportunity.
It is evident by succeses of the STF. They work for the benefit of the people and without the tamil people's support they could not have overrun the LTTE camps.
Tamil people have begun to realise how much they have been denied and suffered at the hands of the LTTE tiger terrorists. They are the ones who are inhuman. That is the reason we hear tamils killing tamils. It has now become a dog eat dog situation. Its pathetic.
Come on ! get this hatred out of your system first. if not our future generation will never experience peace in the land of Lanka & you are about to shatter whaever peace that remain. GG remember peace begins with you & me.
Gaja: Now what have you stated ? You are a grand old lady, enjoy your days & promote peace withing yourself, your kith & kin & among the people of SL.
Because of statements like this that appear which undoubtedly wrapped with emotions that you make that everybody in Australia call you crazy........ |
