Former President Chandrika Kumaratunga and President Mahinda Rajapaksa had a rare face to face meeting during a ceremony to mark the 108th birth anniversary of the late Prime Minister S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike yesterday. The meeting however didn`t last even for a minute as President Rajapaksa rushed past Mrs. Kumaratunga after a short pause for a greeting. | | |

Pura: CBK was an Icon where the fragmented UNP opposition after decades united under.
but she was lazy, tardy, and all talk with no action. she took on too many objective with none that were completed.
somewhere in that process she gave up hope for sri lanka and became part of the corrupted system.
Mahinda also gets a few kick backs, but not at the scale CBK her Airport terminal kick back alone was 25 million. |

She lost her father when she was 9yrs because of SLFP.
She lost her husband when she was 39 because of SLFP.
She lost her eye because of SLFP.
But power hungry mahinda chased her from SLFP on her B'days
showing his third class political ideology to public. |

Suduthula: I agree about her loss of husband, and father.
but in the end she failed to capitalise on her background and unite the country and bring peace. Instead she stuck to her aristocratic background (only 1 generation old) and accused others for the country's misgivings.
she fought the war against LTTE saying it was not winnable! Common we made it all the way to mulativu, LTTE defeat was inevitable, CBK failed to capitalise on it and end this war. Now were doing this again! with the loss of Both Tamil and sinhala lives
say what if the united states fought WWII saying it was no winnable because they had to cross the oceans, build small airports on ships, and defeat an enemy so vast and superior?
we would living in concentration camps under Germans now!

I think we shouldnt underestimate Bandaranayake family strength in SL politics.Still lot of SLFP people has not forgotten Bandranayake familly.We know that even AnuraB also gets lot of votes from Gampaha with CBK in elections.
There are lot of powerful ministers like Mangala, jeevan, Rathwatte & many more of them are backing CBK.Most important thing is Mahinda is loosing JVP support which makes him weak in down south.Therefore I feel that Mahinda's political future is not good due to bus bombs & failing econamy.
