At least 15 civilians were killed today afternoon when a suicide bomber blew her self up inside a crowded bus South of Sri Lanka. The incident occurred at about 2.40 p.m. when a Colombo-Matara private bus exploded on the Hikkaduwa - Ambalangoda Galle road killing at least 15 and injuring more than 20, Ambalangoda police said. The injured has been rushed to the Karapitiya hospital.
Police say the incident took place near the tourist resort of Hikkaduwa, south of the capital Colombo.
The attack comes a day after a similar incident which killed six people on a bus north-east of Colombo.
Tamil Tigers rebels have been blamed for the attacks, though they deny any responsibility and say they condemn the killing of innocent civilians.
Earlier on Saturday, three bomb blasts were reported in the north of the country, one of which killed four soldiers and a civilian.
The incident occurred when a roadside bomb exploded near a truck transporting troops in the northern district of Vavuniya.
Meanwhile, in the east of the country, the government is trying to capture some areas now under Tamil Tiger control.
The BBC`s Roland Buerk in Colombo says both sides are supposed to be observing a ceasefire, but the agreement has been left in tatters by fighting in which more than 3,500 people were killed last year.

VP is the mad terrorist.Killer VP is under heavy criticism by tamils after recent civillian deaths in NE.He dragged tamils in to a unproductive war. Therefore NE tamils are really angry of him for destroying 5year peace in SL.To satisfy tamils, now he is bombing civillians in south. But this will cause more bombs for NE tamils in return Edited By - punchimahinda - 6 Jan 2007 13:25:17 G |

15 civilians are feared dead due to an explosion triggered inside a Matara bound private bus from Colombo bearing no - HZ 1709, at Seenigama, near the Kahawa junction ,16 miles North West of Galle, on 06th January 2007, at around 02.35p.m.
Police sources suspect the explosion to be a suicidal attack, more likely which holds the trade mark of the most treacherous LTTE terrorist organization. The Ambalangoda Police officials said that. remains of two bodies suspected to be LTTE female suicide bombers were recovered scattered at the scene.
The Ambalangoda Police further said that 10 bodies were immediately transferred to the General hospital at Balapitiya and another dozen were admitted. Balapitiya hospital officials said that seven males and three females were among the dead.
The Police sources further said that more than 40 civilians are feared seriously injured due to the explosion.
Meanwhile, Karapitiya hospital sources confirmed that the casualty figures admitted have risen to twenty(20). Eight of the injured are said to undergo immediate operations as their medical status were feared serious.
The traffic along the Galle - Colombo (A-2), is being diverted and the commuters are advised to use alternative routes.
The tragedy at Kahawa junction - Ambalangoda, is the consecutive explosion alleged triggered off by LTTE terrorist within 24 hours targeting civilians transportation. The LTTE suicidal attempts targeting civilians transportation has become a custom of the terrorist outfit to repulse the military thrust against its escalation of violence in the North and East. |

Very sad about innocent people killed in these fresh bomb attacks!. I thought Nittambuwa bomb went accidentally, but when we see this new attack, LTTE will have a hard time to cover the face.
Its clear, LTTE is planning something big. A suicide bomber has no reason to blast in the bus, as set a bomb to a civilian but is not that hard. Perhaps this suicide bomber was traveling to a different target, but faced a situation to act!. |

My deepest symapthies for the victims and their families.
Achilles,
Firstly LTTE denied this attack.
Secondly can you give me a proof that LTTE did it ?
Why can it not be done by JVP gang ?
I have strong doubt that these bombing exploded to cover Mannar bombings..Maybe i'm wrong.
Anyway the band of fascist who did this act are terrorist, be it SLA, their paramilitary, JVP gang, SL intelligence, GOSL or LTTE.
I deeply condemn this explosion that i qualify as beeing barbaric, uncivilized and animal minded action. |

No one is safe from this type of attacks. One day it could be our turn.
Let sanity prevail and let there be no revenge.
May the families who lost loved ones have the courage to go forward.
My deepest sympathies. |
