SLA, Police storm TRO office, NGO workers arrested

TamilNet, Friday, 05 January 2007, 09:07 GMT

Sri Lanka Army troopers and the Sri Lankan Police stormed the Vavuniya office of the Tamil Rehabilitation office, located at Kurumankadu, arrested four NGO workers and seized all the documents Friday around 11:30 a.m.
Administrative Officer of the TRO in Vavuniya, Sathiyamoorthy, Programme Officer P. Thevarajah, Accountant Nirosha and Office Assistant Priya were taken by the SLA and the Police, TRO officials in Colombo told media.

All the documents at the office were seized by the military and the police and taken in a lorry to Vavuniya Police station.

Fear of aerial raids grip Mannar and Mullaithivu

Sri Lankan Air Force bombed a civilian settlement in Alampil in Mullaithivu at 7.00am today badly injuring a 61 years old woman and a nine year old girl. The woman, Mariathas Nesamani, and the girl, Jesurasa Mosie, have been admitted to the Mullaithivu hospital.
Also today a large contingent of Sri Lankan military in readiness for attack was heaped in Kokupadayan area in the Mannar district. All 63 families of 263 people have displaced to Nanaddan village in fear of a military offensive. The displaced are staying with relatives or in schools converted to refugee camps. This influx of refugees from Kokupadayan to Nanaddan is striking fear among the Nanaddan residents that the Sri Lankan Air force will bomb these refugee camps as it has done on several occasions in the recently.

In the meantime funerals were held in Padahuthurai for the 14 civilians instantly killed by the Sri Lankan Air Force air raid on 2 January. Another mother and her one year old baby injured in the air raid died in Kilinochchi hospital on 3 Januray. The father of the baby is receiving treatment at the same hospital.
