Possessing or using such bogus ID cards is a punishable offence.

This means from now on 'its legal' to kill wanni monkeys anytime

Punishable offense does not mean Killing..lolz..man your like a Fake JUDGE..

I was hoping Mr Brown would have kept the earlier post on Corruption among the forces a bit longer for us to discuss.

It is no point in giving Death penalty to these guys who may be brought to justice as scape goats. They should go deeper and find the BIG Goat and find out why they did it?

If having a bogus ID is punishable A lot of SL civilians are gonna get it.
Mostly sinhalese as most of them have fake ID for many reasons which we all know very well and I do not want to discuss it now.
SL ID is a dime a dozen. Who would ever want to fake one. It has no value outside of SL.
I dfo not know why bother to carry one.
Ofcourse to prevent harressment form the police and security forces it helps, but it really dose not do anything legal as no one trust it anymore.

LTTE has decided to extend its identity card system to Diaspora Tamils

Sources close to the LTTE confirm that the LTTE has decided to extend its identity card system to include the Diaspora Tamils. Extensive information will be gathered about individuals and these will cover personal details including wealth, medical, employment, credit information etc. Special forms have been designed to be used by the LTTE agents overseas to extract information from expatriate Tamils. The issue of ID card will incur standard application fee of US $250 per person.

Sources confirm that the LTTE has decided to make their identity card compulsion for every Diaspora Tamils. Anyone without the ID card will not be permitted to visit the Vanni territory. It is confirmed that LTTE has decided to link the ID card system to its fund raising activities overseas. Anyone not making financial contributions to the LTTE will be monitored and agents will visit them to pass messages from the leadership in Vanni. It is also expected that anyone without satisfactory fund contribution record will face the pressures of the LTTE when they visit Vanni.

It is said that LTTE?s Tamil Eelam Bank account details too will be incorporated into the ID cards.

It is unknown whether the ID card system will be linked to the relatives of the individuals in Sri Lanka. Judging from the standard questionnaire completed by the LTTE to extract information from individuals living overseas last year, it is expected such linkage will be made to put pressure on those resisting the ID card system and those do not contribute funds.

ID card system is introduced following representations by the LTTE?s overseas agents as they consider such system will give them more authority to deal with individuals.

I think it is now easier to kill sinhalese and plant a fake ID on em and anyone can get away with it. So you better watch out.
You do not have to go to Vanni to kill monkeys. There are plenty of of here in Ciolombo

Spending money of the labourers for 'MIHIN AIR' is unjust - UNP

(LeN-2007 Jan. 02, 7.00pm) The United National Party says the cabinet decision to spend ETF to inaugurate the new air line 'Mihin Air' is unjust.

At a media briefing held in Colombo this morning (2) UNP Spokesperson Parliamentarian Gayantha Karunathilake stated that it is risky to use the money of the innocent labourers for projects and calls on the government to halt the use of it and present a complete estimate to the parliament to obtain necessary allocations.

If so the political parties would have an opportunity to question and discuss about the issue, he said.

The cabinet paper presented by the President to the cabinet meeting on the 27th of December was not called in for discussion. The president got it accepted with a smart move.

The cabinet paper on the low cost air line had been formulated by the President on the 20th of December after holding discussions with the Minister and officials of ports and civil aviation, finance and the defense ministries.

The chairman of the proposed air line is Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakse and the Chief Executive Officer would be Presidential advisor Sajin Vaas Gunawardena.
