i still can not understand why this Manner man who married to a sinhala woman hates Sinhalese so much...
it has nothing to do with being sinhalse or tamil. when i look at my wife i see a person that i love not tamil, sinhalese or anything else.
its the POLICIES of the GOSL who mostly represent the sinhalese that we hate. |

Banning them means going against some people's wishes of practicing them.....
It pretty much depends on the sorry human beings who ask/accept dowries............yes you cant ban them as long as there are poeple who are happy with the concept :) :) |

When we criticise and expose the visious and vidictive nature of the sinhala racists and their terrorist state,we are said to be hating the sinhalese people.Of course! we hate the sinhala state terrorism but not the sinhalese people.

But those are social elements of a culture, and LTTE should not control them.
these are customs that have been fine tuned by our elders to bring out the worst in us sometimes!
from what i know the dowry was basically a present by the bride's parents (who was probably uneducatedand saved money perhaps ) to the groom (who was educated ). but thats changed and now its the grooms parents DEMANDING it. this is what has been stopped. if youre poor then this helps. if your rich you can still give money on your own but if you get reported you better have a VERY good explanation!
ontop of it there is this donation business which basically goes to the parents.
thats why asian society doesn like females. i am sure you hadve read articles about aborted preggys in india when they learn the fetus is female.
in Harrow, UK if youre pregnant and go in for a scan YOU wont be TOLD the gender of ther FETUS. there is a sizeable asian population. Solar can you confirm this.

People took advantage of VP's policy; Many highcaste tamils were furious.
When it comes to proposals marriages, caste stick with certain system. You can't eradictate it fully.
Anyways, it is delicate issue to talk here.
I can see the farsight to it. Low castes getting intermixed with highcastes, getting open to financial, wealthy, educational opportunities. I am not against it. Don't get me wrong.
Bannign was not the way to do it. Because that is part of our culture and tradition how ugly it looks. Those ugly factors are what made us evolve to be better humans. In spite of its cruelty some people still remain who wish to practise any side good or bad their culture gives them.
VP could have put protective laws. I can understand banning to dowry due to the hardships parents endeure in wartimes and their financial gains shrink. But people still could chose not to marry the girl at all. Banning does not give a cluster of closuer. Protective laws does. That is why I am against banning at all. Anyway blocking such cruel practices is upheld! |
