Good day Mr.Tamilcanuck..

probably true for dubya as well!

Indeed sir .. some would say our President is lost in his own quest .. time will tell :o)

First .. you have yet to answer my question:

Tell me sir how is it that you support two completely different solutions to your countries conflict??

Second .. Tell me sir .. why are the areas under Thamil Tiger control so abjectly poor when it is a well documented fact that the organisation receives millions in monthly contributions from the expatriate thamil diaspora??

Where does this money go when according to published literature the thamil population in these areas only number a few million??

If the Thamil Tigers are so proficient in smuggling weaponry past the Sri Lankan Navy, why does in not import essential items for the people it supposedly represents since it has already advertised to the world that it functions as a pseudo state??

If indeed Thamil Tigers have a magnificent administrative structure why has it allowed the Sri Lankan Governments public services administration to function in areas under its control? Why has it not driven out the Government administration like it did to the Government police and the judiciary??

Why is that according to international NGO reports that no civil or criminal case can be filed against any LTTE cadre in its kangaroo courts??

Mr.Vimukthi..

Sorry I've taken this long to reply.. now coming on to the points your've made:

There is too much money and power at stake in continuing the war for the corrupt leaders presently to do anything more than 'play at making peace'. The cynical games played by GOSL/LTTE at peace-making has only further soured the mood of the people who are fed up with the misery of war but are just as weary of the promise of peace.

I totally agree .. From studying your countries political history after independence It appears Sri Lanka has suffered a dearth of quality leadership, true visionaries were, or are, non existent or have been killed of before they could make a difference..

Regarding US empire building: I hope you would agree that even amongst international relations theorists, your particular interpretation based upon 'human nature' is just one amongst a host of different possible theoretical approaches (neo-realists).

I have to agree ..

At its base it is more a metaphysical argument relying on some suprahistorical idea of a immutable human nature. You could just have easily said, 'God decrees that man is sinful therefore his earthly kingdoms will always be corrupt and iniquitous'. But as one who does not subscribe to a Judeo-Christian-Islamic conception of God I cannot kneel before your rather misanthropic prognosis for humanity.

Although my background would suggest that I would appear to ''subscribe to a Judeo-Christian-Islamic conception of God'' .. im a little more complicated that that .. suffice to say my belief in god and his worldly creation is in a phase of transition. My description of humanity in its current form was just an observation based on the existential reality of today's world and is not an end argument of what humanity as a whole was, inherently is, or is going to end up as.. The physical environment that appears to breed and spread this phenomenon can and will change, and as a direct result change humanity too..

I believe you're a Buddhist .. was greed and the quest for power not talked about in the teachings of Buddhism .. what did the benevolent Buddha say about greed and power?

I susbscribe to the theory that human beings make their own 'nature'. A cursory glance at history will show that every empire, in every form of social domination the rulers have relied on arguments of the inevitability of such domination using 'god', 'human nature' etc to justify their rule. Humanity has made their way from slavery to the present day not by believing in the inevitablity of anything except perhaps their own freedom.

Possibly Mr.Vimukthi .. you could very well be correct ..

TO preface my answer, i would say that the parties that subscribe to such names and countries which claim such systems are none that I believe are socialist.

Again I have to agree with you .. however you haven't answered my question .. do you prescribe in essence to a theoretical socialist system??

I beleive in the great potential of human solidarity. I don't believe in the system of capitalism which posits the private pursuit of profit as the most important human endeavour. I believe other endeavours, caring for each other, the pursuit of leisure, the pursuit of art, living in sync with our environment and other things are more important than the pursuit of profit. The World Social Forum and the new anti-capitalist movements that crystallized after Seattle 1999 are the beginings I believe of searching for a contemporary alternative to the imperialist system.

Once again I have agree with you .. the end result of such an endeavour should be our truest goal as a human species..

Its been great talking to you

Take care Mr.Vimukthi..

I support a fed state since it probably the best for everyone living in the island. can start to rebuild using existing infrastructure, help each other out..
but there comes a time if a fed state isnt coming then one must have other options available. so if the LTTE wages war i'll support that too.

Second .. Tell me sir .. why are the areas under Thamil Tiger control so abjectly poor when it is a well documented fact that the organisation receives millions in monthly contributions from the expatriate thamil diaspora??

i dont know how much the diaspora sends but running a state on it own is very difficult let alone having to keep the military machine going. I know of folks who will invest in vanni once the shooting stops. one such project is vannitech.

why does in not import essential items for the people it supposedly represents since it has already advertised to the world that it functions as a pseudo state??

feeding half a million + people isn that easy when you have to SMUGGLE food as well. like i said above once the war stops the existing infrasture the tigesr have will be put to civilain use.

If indeed Thamil Tigers have a magnificent administrative structure why has it allowed the Sri Lankan Governments public services administration to function in areas under its control?

we'll milk them to the fullest extent!!
if the GOSL wants to cut them off (infact in jaffna today some people are getting by with one meal. there was an embargo for a good portion of the last decade with NO electricity so there is no end to the conditions imposed by the GOSL.

Why is that according to international NGO reports that no civil or criminal case can be filed against any LTTE cadre in its kangaroo courts??

from what i know the civil admin and LTTE although joined at the top are basically two entities. cases are filed and dealt with irrespective of whether you are a cadre or not..

talkign of courts i gues Bush knew the the us Army was GONNA commit Crimes in Iraq and basically said that the US army will be exempt from the ICC. then sets up a camp at guentanamo bay and has his way.
I guess when youre a super power you can do whatever you can and call it whatever you want!
